Kevin and Gwen were on the beach.
"What's that?"
"Weird pointy shell? I don't know," Kevin answered. Gwen's hands found her hips as she took a closer look.
"Kevin, that's a starfish."
The osmosian was annoyed. "Doesn't look like a fish to me," he grumbled, and threw it back into the ocean.
Suddenly, bubbles appeared on the surface of the water, and a half-man, half-fish erupted from the water and landed on shore with his chin in his hands. He was sparkling violently.
"Hello, you lovely human specimen."
"Thank you," said a flustered Gwen.
"I was talking to the other one."
Kevin gasped. Then, his face darkened. "You're weird as shit, merman."
The merman flashed a dazzling smile. My name's MerMike."
"Were you born out of a clam or something?" Kevin asked, and recoiled as MerMike flinched.
"Oh- a ghastly concept- dear cod, no! I was born as you, Levin, three the Morningstarfish into the ocean."
"How do you know my name?!" asked Kevin with a disgusted frown. MerMike flopped his sparkling golden tail and wiggled across the sand, turning to Gwen for the first time.
"Your mana... It is like nothing I've ever felt!"
Gwen's eyes went wide. "You mean- my energy? The energy that derives from my powers as an anodite?"
MerMike was confused. "No? I know not of what you speak. I'm referring to the magic that was bestowed upon you by the Great Manatee!"
A giant tidal wave crashed against the shore. Bodies flew everywhere and it rained sand forever.
A beached manatee emitted a wail that knocked all of the planets out of orbit.
MerMike applauded. And sparkled.
