With the cold shackles around his ankles and wrists, Jean val Jean tugged the huge sailing vessel into the port while listening to the other prisoners woes and being hit with oncoming sea water. One scraggly looking man was praying to God to be free while another man was adamant that when he was free he would get married to his sweetheart. Both men got the same reply from the other prisoners, they would be here forever and never be free. Eventually the boat was in port so the prisoners could go back to their cells. As Jean was walking back with the other prisoners he was stopped by an angry looking policeman. " Retrieve the flag." he said to Jean. As Jean looked over to where the policeman was pointing to he saw that part of the mast of the ship had broken off and it had the french flag still attached to the end of it. Angrily Jean went over to the mast and bent down and lifted with all of his might and dragged it over to the policeman's feet. "Now prisoner 24601 your time is up and your parole has begun. You know what that means." The policeman said when Jean was done dragging in the mast. "Yes, it means i'm free!" Jean answered with a slight smile on his lips. The policeman glared a Jean, "No!" he said " You will always be a convict 24601!" Jean glared up into the policeman's eyes. "My name is Jean val Jean!" He said with defiance in his voice. Unfazed the policeman looked at Jean. " And i'm Javert, do not forget my name 24601!" With that Jean gave one last glare to Javert and then walked out to the outside world for the first time in ten years.
