A/N: Hi everyone! I'm back with another story. It's been years since I've written a fanfic so it's nice to be back. Hopefully I've become a better writer in the time that I've been gone. But I'm sorry in advance for any grammatical errors as well as any errors in the names of anything Star Wars related. Quickly, I would like to thank my best friend, Taylor who inspired me to write this story and who inspires me every day. Just so you are aware, this fanfic has some language in it and it is about Kylo and Hux falling in love. So, if you don't like gay people or brief swearing, then you might not want to read this story. Oh, and just so you know, this story is taking place between the end of The Force Awakens and beginning of the Last Jedi. Otherwise, enjoy the story and please leave and honest review! It would be greatly appreciated, and I'm open to any suggestions on how I can become a better writer especially about how I should format the dialogue and the different paragraphs. Thank you.
Disclaimer: These characters are not mine and I do not own Star Wars.
Chapter 1
Kylo walked briskly down the dark hallway toward his room. He quickly entered the dark, solitary room and the metallic doors closed behind him with a silent swoosh.
Small tears flowed down his pale, angular face, causing him to remove the helmet that masked his true feelings. Kylo lumbered over to a chair and sat down. He heaved giant sobs now as he covered his face with his shaky hands.
"I'm sorry, grandfather." He whispered. "I will never be like you."
The ash-white mask gazed at the depressed knight from its resting place on the desk next to Kylo. Suddenly, a loud knock on the door soon interrupted his lament.
"Kylo! The Supreme Leader wishes to see you now!" Hux barked.
When Hux didn't hear a response from Kylo on the other side of the doors, he lowered his voice and said, "Kylo? Are you…um… okay?"
Kylo picked his mask and headed toward the doors.
"I'm not going to be kept waiting Ky—"
The doors opened and Kylo rushed out. His black cloak billowed behind him. Hux was taken aback because he thought he saw tears running down Kylo's face and he tried to catch up to him.
Though, Hux did find it difficult to follow Kylo because he was the master of speed walking, especially in large crowds of stormtroopers like right now as they entered the main floor of the ship.
Hux strained his short neck to spot Kylo in the sea of people and soon saw a black, hooded figure on the opposite side of the main floor.
"Did you see Kylo? I think he was crying for his rebel mommy," one of the stormtroopers sneered.
Another one joked along, "That brat was probably upset about his stupid father again."
The troopers laughed in unison until Hux turned and glared at them.
"General," they acknowledged as Hux maliciously looked at the pair of them.
He felt strong rage boil up inside him until it finally exploded in his voice, "GET BACK TO YOUR STATIONS AND NOT ANOTHER WORD ABOUT KYLO!" Hux shouldered rudely past the confused stormtroopers.
All of Hux's coworkers thought that he despised Kylo Ren, but that was not the case. Well, at least not these past few months.
Hux never realized how much he cared about the introverted knight until he carried him away from the crumbling planet of Starkiller Base. Hux had been leading the First Order with Kylo since Snoke commanded them to work together and Hux still couldn't realize how he had failed to see how adorable Kylo Ren really was. Specifically, when he was asleep in the infirmary after fighting the scavenger girl. He loved the darkness of Kylo's hair and how it just moved freely over his perfectly-shaped face. And he liked how Kylo could be sarcastic one minute, but then be quiet and distant the next. It made Hux feel a good kind of nervous and made Kylo seem unpredictable.
At this point, Hux knew he was gay and he also knew that he would never be able to love Kylo in this environment where everyone was serious and so driven to their goal of defeating the Resistance to focus on emotions and love.
And that's if Kylo even could ever love him back. Hux didn't care if anyone thought any less of him for standing up for Kylo. He could punish those troopers in an instant and make them go down to work in sanitation or something fun like that. But as for right now, he had to find Kylo and go face Snoke even though he really didn't want to.
Hux hurried down a few hallways hoping to find Kylo on the way to Snoke's lair. A few more turns down the corridors and Hux found himself in Snoke's lair with Snoke sitting on his throne and Kylo with his back facing Hux.
"You're late," Snoke announced.
"I'm dreadfully sorry Supreme—"
Hux was then propelled forward toward Snoke who had his knobby hand outstretched, using the force. He was inches away from Snoke's deformed face and could feel the Supreme Leader's breath on his face as he hissed, "Make sure it doesn't happen again!" He put emphasis on every word while Hux just nodded back.
"Good," Snoke replied slyly and with that, he used the force to throw the terrified general onto the floor several feet away.
"Now, I summoned you idiots here before me to discuss Kylo's ineffective leadership skills."
Kylo looked up at Snoke and met his penetrating gaze.
"Ah yes, I can feel your conflict, Kylo. I can sense the light trying to blind you again."
Snoke paused and then hardened his stare. "And that is EXACTLY why your leadership is poor. You've got too much light in you and you're too soft, yes. Perhaps I should have chosen another apprentice, one who would be more willing and mentally capable than you. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could kill their parents in a heartbeat but you on the other hand—"
"ENOUGH!" Kylo yelled. A single tear escaped his frightened brown eyes and his grip tightened around his mask that he held at his side.
Hux glanced at Kylo and his heart broke a little inside.
The Supreme Leader was surprised at his apprentice's outburst and was about to reprimand him for it literally in a flash because in the blink of an eye, Kylo was zapped with Sith lightning.
Snoke bellowed, "WHY ARE YOU CRYING! YOU ARE TOO WEAK!"
Kylo fell to the floor and writhed in agony for a moment even after the lightning escaped his body.
"Now, I want Hux to take over Kylo's duties while he trains with me for the next week." Snoke's lopsided mouth curled into a devilish grin, "Do you think you can handle that Hux? Or have you also become a soft wookiee like Kylo?"
Hux grinned but he trembled a little as he spoke, "You have nothing to fear Supreme Leader. I won't fail you and I'm honored to be given this promotion."
"Excellent. Both of you may leave, but I want to see Kylo back here later to start his training."
Both Hux and Kylo bowed to Snoke and left the room.
Hux was the first one to talk, "Kylo, I—"
"Just stop while you're ahead, general. I know you're about to brag about your new position and I swear, if I hear your insignificant squeaky little voice say another word, let's just say that I don't think you'll have that new job anymore."
The glint in Kylo's eyes accompanied the shine of his lightsaber which he pointed to on his belt. Hux got the message immediately and looked away from Kylo.
Hux wanted to say something. Something like "No, I wasn't going to brag, you sensitive twit." But he knew that would only make Kylo angrier, so he just walked with him silently.
Hux knew deep down in his dark and twisted heart that this was the only time that he ever thought about not boasting about his achievements to Kylo. But that's because you only want to win him over, stupid.
They strode about the ship together and Hux couldn't help but think about Kylo's hair and how he loved the way that it moved so freely on his head and his biceps and how everything about him was just so perfect. Thinking about him made him happy. They approached the bridge of the ship where several lower officers began telling Hux about several repairs that they had fixed on the ship as well as the speed at which they were going at.
For once, Hux smiled at them and complimented them on their good work, "Excellent, captain! You always do such good work."
He didn't know what was wrong with himself. The other officers were clearly as confused as he was. Usually Hux was much more belligerent even when they accomplished many tasks.
Even Kylo turned to look at Hux. The general's face turned a shade of rose-red as he became conscious of all the pairs of eyes observing him.
