A/N:

Guess who finally decided to make her own original story- also, before anyone reports me, don't worry, both parties are responsible adults here.

'n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness-'

"Hey, Dr. Lance-"

"What?"

The older male, who goes by the name of Lance, questioned in annoyance as he skimmed through his morning paper while waiting for the younger man's response from across their table. The only time his little brother would call him that in that mocking tone of his is when he found something rather interesting enough to tease his elder brother with. And dread was starting to grow inside of him for he had an idea what he was about to say next,

"Ms. Sunshine's back,"

Those simple words still managed to surprise him that it caused his leg to hit the corner of their table when he abruptly stood up,

"Ow! Son of a-"

"You two! Language!"

A woman, who seemed like she was in her mid 50's, yelled at her sons before turning back to continue washing the remaining dishes, her head shakes in disbelief at the boy's conversation. She found it ridiculous, especially when her eldest has taken quite a liking to a girl he's never talked to before. It reminded her so much when they were still younger and would tell her about their childhood crushes like it was a normal thing to do. But this was far from normal, in her opinion. She was only hoping that this was just some joke Lance was playing.

"You should have seen his face, ma! Oh boy I would have loved to catch that on camera! It'll probably sell-"

"You- you just shut the hell up."

Lance gritted through his teeth as he massaged the sore area where it was hit earlier, making him grunt as his eyes searched for the said sunshine outside, but much to his disappointment it was just another prank by his brother, Loise. Damn the motherfucker, he swore he'd make him pay one day, maybe he'd stop paying for his tuitions and make him live on the streets as a form of revenge.

Loise ignored the intimidation in his voice and only chuckled at him as he wore an amused expression, replaying his brother's whole response in his mind. He couldn't believe it, Lance Sistine aka the man of the house and their sole provider, was obviously smitten with their next building neighbor, a girl who didn't actually look attractive enough to catch anyone's eye, really. He was starting to wonder how did he end up liking the female when they haven't even met yet. It was impossibly one of those cliched love at first sight instances which would only result to heart breaks and unnecessary drama, something his brother's never fond of.

"I don't know man, I just wanted to see your reaction."

"Yeah, okay, do that again and I wouldn't feed you for a month."

But of course it was just an empty threat, he couldn't really do that to him. He loved his brother, even though he's a dick most of the time, as much as he did with his mother, but he hated it when the boy would trick him regarding a certain someone when he already told them that it was something that shouldn't be joked about in his presence.

"You know you're not scary when you look at me like that, right? Especially when you have this one sided crush on a little girl~"

"I said shut up!"

He smacked him at the back of his head, earning a small string of curses from the younger one as Lance brought his half full mug on the sink. That's right, he couldn't really blame them. The whole thing was laughable, even to him.

He, a single 41 year old man, at the peak of his medical career, was at the mercy of an unknown woman who is just a grasp away. It was pathetic, if he may say so himself, considering that she wasn't even his type. He wasn't a play boy or someone who just dates a flock of women during his spare time, but he most definitely has his tastes. People would probably call him out for being an egotistical bastard but they can never truly hide the facts; he's quite successful in his field and is on his way to become a full pledged consultant, is financially stable, and is undeniably still handsome for his age. He would never say all of that in front of them anyway, he only loved boasting to himself after all.

"Lance, when I told you to get married and settle for a good woman, I didn't mean it like this."

His mother crossed her arms as she was just done doing her chores, narrowing her gaze towards her son before releasing a sigh. Lance, for one, wasn't sure if she was just kidding or actually taking everything seriously.

But who wouldn't? He was in his early 40's and the girl he was crushing on is just probably around 18 or below, which looked pretty much like it. The last thing he needed in his life were rumours of him wanting to hit on a minor- wait, did he want to..?

The answer is no.

"Ma, please-"

"Don't worry, I'm sure he doesn't want to just take her right ther-"

"I told you to shut your dirty mouth."

Lance sent Loise a death glare although his tone was the complete opposite of it- he was getting tired of the petty argument going on between them, looking at his mother one last time before adjusting his loose tie as he spoke,

"It's nothing serious, alright?"

He reassured them, slipping his arms into the fabric of his long white suit,

"It's just a dumb childish crush."

He admitted, letting the door close behind him as he silently jogged towards his car.

The girl only sparked a tiny bit of interest in him, that was all to it, even though he was sometimes eager to wait for her to pass by their building.

They were new in the neighborhood, been only there for a couple of months but the place itself was nice and he was already starting to feel quite at home. It was just a small village consisting of 6 buildings which surrounded a park and a court; each building had 4 floors and in every floor there were a total of 8 units. Luck was on their side for they managed to buy off the very first floor and set up a tiny backyard for their dogs to roam around freely.

Right, they were located in the 6th building while she lived in the 5th one, his observations proved so when he noticed the path she took every time she walked by.

"What the fuck."

He muttered in grimace- his latest actions involving this girl was starting to creep him out. He told himself many times before that he wasn't an obsessed maniac but whenever she would show up, he'd somehow stop whatever he was doing and spare even the shortest of glances. He would be lying if he said that he doesn't feel any butterflies in his stomach whenever she was nearby.

"I'll be late if this goes on..."

Lance said to no one in particular, checking out his watch every now and then as he comfortably sat on the driver's seat, closing the door on the way.

Then again, only a few months went by when he started noticing the girl and since both of them weren't making any moves- well obviously, none on the girl's part- he always waved it off as something that'll pass, just like his flings with other women back then.

"Pft, yeah,"

Relief washed over him as he ignited his car to life, carefully maneuvering around the small parking lot while searching for an easy opening. He hummed to the beat of the music from the radio, turning the volume up before his hands reached up to his phone to see if there were any important messages.

'You've got 5 messages.'

Of course, it wasn't like fate would just simply decide to have them bump into each other after all this time. It doesn't work like that-

"Oi watch it!"

A yelp stopped him- thankfully- his foot immediately pressing on the brakes before he could hit the person standing in front of his vehicle, which happened to be,

"Oh hell-"

The messy, dark hair that flowed just below her shoulders swayed together with the wind, the same cold look she always had on was now staring straight at his own, and her petite and seemingly fragile form was holding what appears to be...

"A kitten..?"
