The Letter

How long ago now? How long has it been since he took you away from me? Perhaps time is playing its silly tricks on me again; perhaps you haven't really been gone as long as it seems. Reality is cruel, isn't it, Stellar? No. It wasn't reality that killed you—it was this stupid war. Why are we fighting? Why do we continue to fight even when loved ones around us fall? Simply following the orders of our superiors, I guess.

From the moment I saw you dancing on the sea cliffs, I knew in my heart you were different. You weren't afraid to be out of the ordinary. The girls of my past were so unlike you; all they cared about was their clothes and stuff, whatever. But to see you dancing in the sunlight, as if without a singles care in the world, you opened my eyes to true innocence, true beauty. I perceived you in a completely different way. It was odd for me—I never thought such feelings or emotions would, or could, ever exist within me again.

My family was taken from me in the first war, before I had ever seen your face. You didn't know, you wouldn't ever know, our time together was so limited, cut short. After seeing them on the ground, I knew only revenge; all I wanted was the power to become stronger and avenge their deaths. That was why I joined ZAFT, that was why I was involved in this fight against you. If only I had known…

You, on the other hand, really had no choice, right, Stellar? You were forced into the war because you were one of the Earth's Extended. Stellar, my crew wanted to take you in to examine you. How could they do such a thing to you, the nicest girl I had ever met? I broke some rules for you. I took you back home, to you Neo. I made him promise never to put you in battle again because I couldn't stand to see you hurt. He lied to me.

You were back in battle, in that horrible suit, the Destroy. I was getting through to you, wasn't I? You were able to remember my name, even when they tried so hard to erase your memories of me. You were ready to stop fighting, weren't you, Stellar? But Freedom. He came and ruined everything. He took you away from me and destroyed my every hope and dream for your future. He took you away from me. I found you in the aftermath. You still remembered me. My name from your lips was the most beautiful thing ever, after you, of course. Shinn, suki. And that was it. You were forever gone from my life.

I will make Freedom pay, Stellar. For you. You're safe now, where you are; no one will hurt you or scare you ever again. We'll meet again someday. I promise.

Stellar, suki da yo ne. Itsumo.

Shinn folded up his last words to Stellar. He had placed her in the depths of the sea only a few days before, yet as he returned to the same spot, he could still sense her, he could still feel her presence. Or maybe it was just his intuition, his mind playing tricks on him. Sighing, he gently tossed the letter away. He did not need to worry whether or not it would reach its destination, whatever that was. Stellar would know; it was their destiny.

-end.

Hi. I wrote this one awhile ago, back when this part of the storyline was aired. It's an older story, but I just forgot about it until recently n.n. I'm sorry about the shortness and the, uhm, briefness(?) XD. Well, hope you enjoyed nevertheless :).
