Heaven Scent

By SMYGO4EVA

Barren, desolate, lifeless…such was the Wheeler family that had once been full of life. As if one single bang in the universe was set for the corruption of legacies and passages between worlds. The labyrinth-like halls of loneliness and greed sunk into the icy room; who would've known that the present Wheeler children would break the curse of hatred?

In normal circumstances, many of the Wheeler offspring have given in to the deepest bowels of their hell and surrendered themselves to the distrust that enveloped them all. However, the oldest, Joey, wouldn't let that happen, submerge oneself in alcohol and misery set by his own father, not by a long shot. It would be a cold day in hell before he let anything happen to his baby sister Serenity or him. They've already been through too much.

Joey and Serenity's love came through when it mattered the most, when breaking bottles would be heard, when the poison coursed in their father's veins, and when an unfaithful mother gave them the scars that bled and never healed. Their bond was never broken, since it was tested time after time, but the love turned into something forbidden. Affection beyond familial boundaries, beyond the wounds one suffers when love is unrequited. They loved each other, simple as that.

Joey and Serenity had survived the legacy of accusation and lies through courage and compassion of each other. To tell the truth, they never thought they would make it through, but they endured the hardships, and they had each other. That was all that mattered. It was a miracle to them, riveting and a godsend, and belonging of heaven scent, where there was euphoria and relief.
