His hand hovered above the trashcan, his fingers unwilling to release the object that had grounded him for so many years.
It had attended his every breath, even the last one.
Had reminded him of his main task, even after hands so much more powerful than his
had tossed him across the giant chessboard his world had become.
It had meant nothing to Sam.
It shouldn't mean anything to him.
He opened his hand and left.
Retrieving the amulet Sam felt the heavy weight of love and dedication.
He wondered if he'd ever get the chance to give it back.
