"She's good," said Jane, his eyes trailing after their new boss for a moment, sitting upright on the couch that was fast becoming perfectly adjusted to his body as its beaten leather counterpart in the bullpen.
He turned his eyes to his personal boss next. "She's good," he repeated.
"I know," said Lisbon as she rose from the desk, packing up her things as he stood up himself. "But god forbid if we end up on the wrong side of her."
"Why would we ever be there?" he posed innocently with a winning smile, offering her jacket to her wordlessly, ready to slide into.
Lisbon didn't bother deigning that with a response as she ignored his butler stance, snatching the garment from him.
Her look said it all.
He wasn't fazed at all as he moved to the door, flicking the light switch as Lisbon pulled her coat on and then pulled the office door shut, locking it.
"You stress too much," said Jane as he rested his hands on her shoulders, propelling her down the hall towards the elevator.
"You're the cause of most of it you know?" she retorted, turning around to face him, raising her finger up at him as they reached the end.
Jane's arms fell easily from her shoulders at her movements and he invaded her personal space as he reached forward.
He was standing a little closer than accepted for 'friends' when he spoke next. 'Don't worry," he tried to reassure her as he pressed the elevator button. "I'm not going to ruin your career prospects…"
The doors opened.
"… much." Lisbon punched his shoulder in retaliation to his last comment. The consultant laughed, rubbing his upper arm as he followed her into the lift.
As the doors shut and the elevator descended, Madeline Hightower stepped from free from the shadows.
She wondered when she was going to need to have that talk with these two.
Finito.
