"Before we work on artificial intelligence, why don't we do something about natural stupidity?" – Steve Polyak

"I bet you couldn't do it," Morgan shook his head and laughed as Reid as the newest member of the team admired the towering pine trees. They had finished a case in the tiny town of Alberta, Virginia; Hotch and Gideon were still in the precinct and J.J., Morgan and Reid were outside avoiding the police officer that stank of cigarette smoke.

"You could do it if you distributed your weight correctly," Reid said, looking at the spindly tree in question.

"Let me rephrase that: I bet you wouldn't do it," Morgan laughed. He didn't expect the kid to actually do it. He just got the biggest kick out of messing with the twenty-three year old who had only joined their team two months ago.

Reid walked away from J.J. and Morgan and looked up at the tree from beneath it. Without much warning, Reid jumped to grab the closet branch above his head. He struggled a little, but pulled himself up onto the branch.

"What were you thinking, daring him to do that?" J.J. shook her head at Morgan as they sat in the waiting room at the hospital a town over.

"I didn't think he would actually do it!"

"Morgan, he still thinks he has to 'prove' himself," Hotch laughed, still shaking his head over the whole situation.

"He 'proves' himself every time he speaks," J.J. said.

"How do you think he'll explain a broken ankle?"

"A kitten was trapped on a bookcase in the library," Gideon grinned.
