I thought I'd give a try with writing a Half-Life fan fiction, what better way to start than the 7 hours war? The G-man definately had to have been involved. I think the reason why there hasn't been any Half-Life 3 news is because Valve is working on making the Source engine even better than Crysis!

On every single tv channel, every single news outlet and every single radio station began reporting in on the largest event in human history. The leaders of the world had issued a global response to the threat that was now looming on humanity, a reported nuclear explosion at the Black Mesa research facility in New Mexico. The United States knew that it was no ordinary nuclear explosion, just before the explosion – it was consumed with hostile aliens, the United States HECU soldiers tried to contain the alien threat, but it literally blew up in their face. But when the facility experienced a nuclear explosion, the government sent Black Hawk rescue helicopters to try and find possible survivors, it was reported that one of the possible survivors was a young 27 year old scientist, named Doctor Gordon Freeman. But neither would find him, he was stasis for another 20 years.
A mysterious man in a suit warned the President in the United States that the creature whom was holding dimensions together was killed after the Resonance Cascade, and now the Earth was exposed to a severe dimensional rift. The man warned the president to "Prepare for Unforeseen Consequences" – and with the information, the President issued a massive worldwide global warning to the leaders and the people of the world. Massive panic happened in the streets, and in the major cities. Just like the mysterious but enigmatic man in the suit warned, everyone's fears were realized.
Portal storms erupted around the globe, and an alien Empire known as The Combine used this to their advantage. Using the Portal storms, they forcibly poured through with unusual looking mother ships accompanied by crab looking space ships that found their way through the portals in great numbers. The Combine Motherships headed straight for every single major and highly populated city around the globe, but the leaders of the world had no idea why. In response, every single nation's military was put on full alert to protect the major cities.
The 7 hours War, humanity's fight for survival against the alien invaders – had begun.
