Ember Storm looked at herself in a mirror, taking in her appearance; she was wearing a blue uniform that hugged her fifteen- year- old figure. My instincts tell me that this voyage is not going to end well, she thought, sitting in the chair behind her.
"Sis, can I come in?" Susan Storm asked her sister, receiving a light nod.
When Sue came in, Ember turned around and asked, "Why did Mom have to die?"
A look in her sister's blue eyes made Sue say, "Mom is happy where she is, at least Dad is still alive."
Ember chuckled and said, "You're right, it wasn't right for her to suffer any longer than she had to, let's find Johnny."
Sue followed her sister to the bridge where Reed, Johnny, and Ben were waiting for the launch to start and they were also waiting for Victor to finish with his press conference. When she got there, Ember saw a stack of Von Doom Industries uniforms so she gladly put one on. Ember found a chair next to Reed and she sat in it and got out her laptop so she could do some research before the voyage into space so they could map the human genome. Well, maybe my instincts are wrong, I'm not a youkai or a psychic, Ember thought. looking at Reed with a smile on her face.
"Suzie, who the hell came up with these flight suits?" Ben asked, getting Sue to turn around.
She smiled and said,"Victor did. The fabirc acts as a second skin, adapting to our body's physical needs to-"
"Keep the hot side hot and the cool side cool," Johnny interrupted, smiling happily.
Reed looked at Sue in the way he used to, the one that spoke volumes of caring, but she just tossed the uniform in his face and walked to the sapce shuttle. Johnny and Ben were right behind her, leaving Ember and Reed alone. Ember looked at Reed and helped him up and out of his seat and they walked together to the shuttle.
"Reed, Sue's still hurting inside form the last time you two dated. Just give her some time to get over it, even though it's been two years since then," Ember said, looking in Reed's brown eyes.
He looked back at her and said, "You're right."
When the two of them got to the shuttle, Victor was sitting right next to Sue so Ember chose to sit next to Reed on the opposite side of the aisle. Johnny and Ben were up front and they were manning the controls to get the shuttle in the air. With one final look at the ground below, Johnny got the shuttle to start its launch sequence and it blasted into the darkness and emptiness of space. Ember smiled and looked out the window at the fading land and the starry sky above them, wondering when the storm would hit the sapce station.
