It's been half a year since I uploaded something to this site. Time flies doesn't it?
So, quick story time: Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS actually has a lot of unused text in its data. Apparently, the game was supposed to have a lot more cutscenes and generally was more story heavy earlier in development: they cut back on these elements to preserve the original game's feel and to not go overboard with the changes. Now, all of these files are currently on The Cutting Room Floor... but they're in Japanese. Most of the stuff I know from these files came about me using at least three online translators to see if I can make some degree of sense out of them (which worked usually) which is a shame since some of the stuff is pretty interesting (maybe I'll make stories based on those scenes in the future).
Among other scenes, I found this scene to be amusing enough to adapt as a drabble of sorts. It also references a scrapped character trait of Luneth (which only comes up in one blink-and-you'll-miss-it cutscene): Luneth does not like riding on airships. He usually seems to get seasick (airsick) and it was something of a running gag across the game. This is just one of the more amusing instances.
The soft sound of birds filled the air as the Enterprise bobbed lazily in the water. Supplies were running low on the ship and Refia had offered to run out and go get some more (Luneth had offered to go, but Refia made it clear that she half expected him to blow an exorbitant amount of gil on something that COULD be an exlixir or something equally shady (In Luneth's defense, it was one time). So Refia went back into Amur while the boys held down the ship (lest it got chained by another gold-obssesed lunatic). However, the Enterprise was not just a boat: Cid Haze, an old man from Canaan, had modified it into an airship, to the wonder of most of the Light Warriors.
The key word being "most".
"Are you used to the Enterprise Luneth?"
The silver-haired Light Warrior twitched for a moment out of surprise as he turned to his questioner: Ingus. The Sasune knight stared critically at him, adding to his confusion.
"...W-why are you asking me that?" Luneth asked wary. Ingus folded his arms and kept up his look.
"Because Refia and I have noticed that you do not seem to be enjoying air travel very much..."
"I'm heartbroken!" Luneth said in response, bewilderment and offense. "I can't believe you feel that way!" Cid made us this airship, how can I not love it?!"
To Luneth's credit, he almost sounded slightly convincing. But, in the middle of the silence that followed, a quiet voice spoke.
"Do you hate losing so much that you refuse to admit that you're scared?"
"...Did you say something Arc?"
"No, nothing at all..."
The unused text begins where Ingus starts speaking. Compared to the machine translations, I kept it mostly the same (Ingus' second sentence was more a general observation and the first two sentences of Luneth's response were one sentence). See you next time as I write... something else, either Smash related, Final Fantasy (I or III) related, or maybe even something Kirby related.
...Knowing me, it will probably be after I disappear for a few more months.
