This is a song that reminds me of my dad when I started dating, lol. It's called Cleaning This Gun, by...Rodney Atkins, I think. Anyway, my dad threatend to sit on the porch when I brought a boy home, cleaning his shotgun. He never actually did it to me, but he did do it to my older sister. I have to say, her boyfriend was scared to death of our dad ever since. Anyway, this is Arther Weasley's thoughts, as he gets the speach, and then, finally, as he gives it to Harry Potter.
The declaration of independence
Think I can tell you that first sentence
But then I'm lost
I can't begin to count the theories
I had pounded in my head that I forgot
I don't remember all that spanish
Or the gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forgot
Arther Weasley began dating Molly Prewett in their 5th year at Hogwarts. Now, he couldn't remember the different intrutions for potions, or transfigeration. He could tell you the first line of the Hogwarts theme song, but then he was lost. He forgot every word of the spanish his father had made him learn. But there was one thing he would never forget-The speach Molly's father made to him the first time they met.
Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl and her mama's world
She deserves respect, that's what she'll get, ain't it son
Now y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I'll be up all night
Still cleaning this gun
Arther had been terrified of Charles Prewett for several years, ever since that speach. When he went to him to ask for Molly's hand in marriage, he smiled."Treat her right, son,"he said."When you have a daughter, you will understand."
Well now that I'm a father
I'm scared to death one day my daughter's gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
Who seems to have just one thing on his mind
She's growing up so fast it won't be long
'fore I'll have to put the fear of god
Into some kid at the door
Arther soon learned that Charles Prewett had been right. As Ginny began to grow up, she began talking to her mother about things. Women problems, makeup, hair styles, and finally, boys. But what Arther realized is that she talked about one boy in particular-Harry Potter. Then one day, close to her seventeenth birthday, she brought him home, and Arther gave him the speach he had heard so many years ago, when he was Harry's age.
Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl and her mama's world
She deserves respect, that's what she'll get, ain't it son
Now y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I'll be up all night
Still cleaning this gun
Arther was sitting in his office, three years later, when Harry came in and asked his permission to marry Ginny."Treat her right, son. When you have a daughter, you'll understand."
It's all for show, ain't nobody gonna get hurt
It's just a daddy thing, hey believe me man, it works
And Harry did understand. He and Ginny had a litle girl, that they named Lily. He knew that the speach worked, and that one day he would use it on the guy his daughter would one day marry. It's all for show, after all, and it was a father thing.Years later found Harry saying the exact same words Arther had told him, and Charles Prewett said before him:
Come on in boy, sit on down
And tell me 'bout yourself
So you like my daughter, do you now
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl and her mama's world
She deserves respect, that's what she'll get, ain't it son
Now y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I'll be up all night
Still cleaning this gun
