A/N: This is a one shot centered around the song "Ready To Love Again" by Lady Antebellum. I heard the song, and this kinda just popped into my head, and I had to write it. Just so there's no confusion, I'm going to say that this is from before Will and Emma got together. Maybe after he gets back from NY.
Also, I don't own Will and Emma, sadly. I wish I did. But they belong to the creators of Glee and FOX.
Emma was driving to work when the song came on the radio. She had to pull over to really listen to the lyrics. It perfectly described how she was feeling, what she was going through. She smiled, knowing what she was going to do, no longer confused about her feelings. She pulled back onto the road and drove the rest of the way to William McKinley High School with a genuine smile on her face for the first time in weeks.
The day went by quickly, and Emma managed to keep her good mood for all of it, not even whining students managing to break it.
Once all of the students had left the building, Emma made her way to the choir room in search of Will Schuester. "Hey, Emma," Will said as he saw her walk into the room. He was sitting at the piano bench, trying to perfect a song that he wanted the glee club to perform. "How come you haven't gone home yet?" He asked her.
Taking a deep breath, Emma opened her mouth. "I have, uh, something important that I want to tell you. Only, until this morning I wasn't sure how to do it, or even if I could."
"O-okay," he said, confused and a little worried. As he watched Emma step further into the room, he noticed that she had a CD in her hands. "Are you going to sing, Emma?" He felt a sudden rush of anticipation; he loved when Emma sang. He thought that her voice was the most beautiful sound he had ever heard.
"Yes...um, but I was hoping that, uh, you'd sing along, too." She went to the CD player, and inserted the disk. Almost immediately the sound of a piano filled the room.
Will stood up as Emma began to sing.
Seems I was walking in the wrong direction,
I barely recognized my own reflection,
Oh, scared of love but scared of life alone.
Will took Emma's hands in his, started to dance to the slow beat of the song. He joined in on the next verse.
Seems I've been playing on the safe side, baby,
Building walls around my heart to save me,
Oh, but it's time for me to let it go.
Yeah, I'm ready to feel now,
No longer am I afraid of the fall down,
It must be time to move on now,
Without the fear of how it might end, I guess I'm ready to love again.
Emma smiled up at Will, tears in her eyes. Will watched her sing, loving her facial expressions as she did so.
Just when you think that love will never find you,
You've run away, but it's still right behind you,
Oh, it's just something that we can't control.
Will twirled Emma around and the pair continued to sing.
Yeah, I'm ready to feel now,
No longer am I afraid of the fall down,
It must be time to move on now,
Without the fear of how it might end,
I guess I'm ready to love again.
So come and find me,
I'll be waiting up for you,
I'll be holding out for you tonight.
Emma sang the next two lines along.
Yeah, I'm ready to feel now,
No longer am I afraid of the fall down.
They stood still, singing the next part to each other.
It must be time to move on now,
Without the fear of how it might end,
I guess I'm ready,
Ready to love again.
Will let Emma sing the last line of the song, just listening to her voice, love for her filling his chest.
Ooh, I'm ready to love again.
Just to show Will that she was, in fact, ready to love again, Emma rose up on the tips of her toes and pressed her lips to his.
