Her fake name was not for everyone but it was good enough for him, after all, he didn't need a name to tell him who Sophie Devereaux was.
Nate had always known that Lara wasn't her real name when she had written it down on the napkin several years ago but he indulged her; it was a game for them to play, keeping them entertained. A flirting tool.
And even now, as they planned for their wedding, it didn't bother him that he didn't know her real name because Sophie Devereaux was the person he'd fallen in love with. Not Lara or Charlotte or Annie, but Sophie.
Maybe it was because, as thieves and grifters, a lot of the things in their lives were fake. Their lives were built on fake.
The fake watches, which barely kept time, which Sophie had sold as part of her first con.
Their fake money which had given them everything; conned from countless barons, millionaires and princes.
Fake things which had enabled them to become what they'd become.
They'd enabled her to become Sophie Devereaux, to become the person she was today as well as given her the skills to build up a new family and work with the man who would eventually become her husband.
That fake name had enabled them to become the love they made, to become the honest and the veiled, both the right and the wrong, the weary and the wild, the liked and the loathed; to become something better.
Her fake name was not for everyone and, at one time, it hadn't even been good enough for her. But now she knew that she was Sophie Devereaux. That was who she was, so, perhaps the reason that it was good enough for Nate was that it wasn't a fake name anymore. There was no Lara or Charlotte or whoever she had once been. There was only Sophie Devereaux and the person she'd become.
Sort of Similar to the last one-shot/comment whatever you want to call it but it just had to be written.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it.
