A stoic demon lord looked on silently at the group that travelled with is brother. From a distance he could smell tear and hear their parting conversation. Finally they parted and one of them began walking down a path leading to the forest. The girl in her odd clothing walked slowly backwards, waving at her companions before turning to the forest. Her last time walking this path.
As the girl, no, woman drew near the demon stepped out of the shadows that had hidden his presence.
"Where are you going?"
She looked up at him, her eyes red rimmed but a smile found its way to her face through her tears.
"Home."
The demon did not answer, he stood, motionless as the woman walked by him her steps never faltering. He remained.
An afternoon as he sat watching his small group, his ward skipped up to him, her face beaming as always, and carefully handed him a wild rose before skipping away again.
The demon lord turned it over in his hand but he neglected the thorns and one of them tore at his skin causing a slight dribble of blood before the wound healed itself.
In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds of lovers past
Until a new one comes along
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretence
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self-defence
And every time I held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes
And so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose
But if my silence
Made you leave
Than that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes
And so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes
And so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
Thank you for reading (song: and so it goes by Billy Joel)
