Author's Note: Hey, look! Another one-shot! :D I've been writing a lot of these, because they help clear my writer's block so that I can go back to working on the multi-chapter FanFics I have up… speaking of which, I've written one for Heroes! :D The first chapter should be up not to long from now, and I would really appreciate some support(:
Claire hugged her knees to her chest and let out a long, shuddering breath. She couldn't help but feel pity for herself as she curled into a little ball under the covers, completely hidden from the world she hated so profusely. She felt sick to her stomach when she thought about all the things that were wrong with her.
She was barely even nine years old.
Claire lived in a big house with a great family. She had been adopted, but she couldn't have asked for a better family. Her little brother was annoying in the best ways possible, her mother was loving, and her father was hardworking. They were the best family she could've asked for, and she knew she should be happy. Hell; they even had a pampered little lap-dog named Mr. Muggles! She loved her family to death… But at the young age of nine, she was already learning.
It was not normal. She was not normal. Her family was not normal. Having a dad who left town on "business trips" for a freaking paper company was not normal. Having a mom with a freakish obsession for her pet was not normal. Neither was Claire's life, her friends, her so-called 'talents'… none of it. She was but a mere child, and she was already learning all of this. She knew people who lived their whole entire lives without discovering that everything they'd ever known and loved had been a lie. Why did it have to happen to her? Why did she have to learn so young? She was only nine, and her whole world was turning upside-down.
She was so young… but she was so, so mature. She was far too mature for her age. She already recognized cruelty and deception and the relative unfairness of the world. She hated it. Already, she hated it…
She knew that she didn't want to live like this for the next fifty, sixty, seventy years. She didn't want to live the rest of her life out like this. She didn't want the lies, the deception, the false hope, the misconceptions… But that wasn't the reason why she was crying.
She was crying because no matter how many times she jumped, her eyes remained full of life… and that was just another lie.
A/N: I know that was really short, so sorry about that… but I just wanted to get the point across and I felt that keeping it short and sweet was the best way to make the strongest impact. But I'm not so sure about what it turned out like, so… Leave a review and let me know what you think?(:
