As Sakura savagely fought her current opponent, brutally beating them into submission, her mind drifted back to that dream. The one in which she had finally been able to... Find it. That thing she had been too weak to find before.
"P-please, Sakura-" Hinata's voice broke as she begged the pink-haired girl for her life, but she knew she would be shown no mercy. She was simply praying for more time. Because as soon as she had set her famous Hyuuga eyes on the other girl, she knew it was but an empty shell of her former friend. The Byakugan had seen through the layers of Sakura's being and recognized the corruption of something essential, the very thing that had made her SAKURA.
Her soul.
The warped thing that she had become obviously felt no remorse as she lifted Hinata into the air by the throat, her powerful punch connecting with Hinata's face and shattering her jaw. Lavender eyes widened as a scream rose in her throat, and then stuck there, unable to escape through her bloodied mouth. Sakura pulled back her fist again. And Hinata knew she had indeed run out of time.
Blood flew through the air as Sakura's fist once again connected with her face. She felt several bones crack under the chakra-infused punch and realized her opponent had finally been beaten into submission. Finally. The girl had certainly put up quite a fight. The foreign thing that had taken over Sakura's mind and body took great satisfaction in the smaller girls pain. Her fingers finally released Hinata's throat and the raven-haired girl tumbled to the ground, staring up at the Sakura-thing fearfully.
The victorious kunoichi mechanically wiped her hand on her dark cloak, then reached behind her to grasp the scythe-axe strapped to her back. It thrummed with a smoky-violet chakra, unlike any other, and her green eyes darkened to a matching purple that swirled as the reaper-essence stole over her. Cold emanated from her in a black cloud, filling the room with a frosty haze. She raised the scythe high over her head, taking carful aim.
Hinata closed her eyes.
Well. There was no point in daydreaming about the past. It was time to focus on her current situation.
In one smooth motion she brought it down. It tore cleanly through her opponent's ivory neck and thunked when it hit the floor. As blood began to seep from the death blow, a snowy white gas-like substance also flowed from the wound and settled around the scythe-axe. Sakura's weapon began to absorb the soul, and she smiled coldly. This had turned out to be rather fun, hadn't it?
'I think I'm going to like this job.'
