"Let's go shopping." Addison Shepherd asked her husband, who was still half asleep from working the night before.
"Go away. I'm trying to sleep, women." He told her playfully.
"Please?" She pleaded, pouting like a child.
"No, now go away woman and let me sleep!" He replied in mock annoyance.
"Come on Derek, I'm board, pleeeeeease." She tried again.
"Fine, just please don't pout women!" He told her, while winking at her then going for a shower.
Addison patiently waited for her husband to finish in the shower.
"Finally!" she exclaimed at him as he came out.
"What? I wasn't that long, was I? was I really?". He asked, pretending to think it over. Just to irritate her.
"OK, fine! I give up, now let's go shopping!" Addison yelled over her shoulder as she jumped into their car.
Derek just chuckled and proceeded to follow his wife out to the car.
"Hey woman! What do you think your doing? Your not driving my baby! No way! Uh uh! I love you, Addie, but just no." Derek told her, trying to snatch the keys from her.
Two hours (and a couple of stores) later the Shepherds had decided to stop for coffee.
"We haven't done this in a long time and I gotta say that I have enjoyed myself." Addison admitted to her husband.
"That's great Adds, it's nice to see you smile again, I want this to be our fresh start." Derek told her.
"You don't have to explain yourself to me, Derek. We both made mistakes and us working on them is all the confirmation I need, so let's make a deal here and now, no more raking up the past, Ok?" Addison proposed, extending her hand for him to shake, which he did.
"Deal!" He smiled at her.
The couple enjoyed their couple and made plans for the upcoming holidays and decided to leave.
Suddenly, the door of the coffee shop burst open.
"Money, valuables and anything that's worth something!" The armed gunman ordered, throwing a bag on the floor.
"Now ever one one the floor now!" He yelled at the terrified hostages.
AN HOUR LATER
The gunman hadn't let up, and thanks to a secret panic alarm, the coffee was surrounded by armed police and a hostage negotiator.
He needed a way out.
The armed man had everyone on the floor of the coffee and had stolen their valuables.
He was desperate.
"So who wants to die, come on! Any volunteers?" He yelled over the commotion of a group of innocent, terrified people.
Turning to his victims, the gunman let an evil smirk cross features, before speaking.
"Let's play a game, it's called duck, duck, gouse. The first purse or wallet that I pick out, dies!" He laughed, cruelly at them. Getting a high from their cries of fear and terror.
All the victims could do was hold their breaths, knowing that there was nothing that they could do for the person whose wallet was pulled out of the bag.
"Oh, look? What do we have here, a doctor nonetheless. Ladies and gentlemen." The man taunting his frightened hostages.
As Addison looked around, she swore she could see some hope return to the eyes of the people around her. Terrified for the poor soul who would, but yet. Praying to any God that it wasn't them.
"Shepherd?" The gunman called out.
Addison and Derek shared look between themselves before they were pulled out of their gaze by the gunman's voice.
"Derek Shepherd?" The gunman called out again and walked over to him.
Derek looked up at him and then at his wife
"I love you." He whispered to her.
"Stand up!" The gunman ordered, Derek did as he was told.
The man took him to the middle of the room and ordered him to his knees.
"Any last words, Doc?" The gunman asked, smugly, he was about to kill a doctor of all people.
"You won't get away with this!" Derek told him.
As he was about to pull the trigger, Addison jumped up and pushed Derek out of the way, this startled the gunman and the gun went off.
The armed police used this to their advantage and moved in and the arrest.
Derek stared at his wife as if she was made of glass, not really taking any of it.
"Addy! Ads! Addison, you stay with me, you hear me? You. Stay. With. Me. You don't get to die, not today!" Derek yelled at her, trying to keep her awake.
Addison had sustained two gunshot wounds, one to her right shoulder and one to chest.
Once inside the rig, the EMT was struggling to keep Addison alive.
"Sir, what are you doing?" The EMT asked, asked Derek started chest compressions.
"I'm doctor Derek Shepherd from Seattle Grace. I'm a neurosurgeon. Now tub her!" Derek ordered.
The Chief paged his best doctors once he'd gotten the call.
"I need you all at your best once I tell you who's in the back of the incoming rig." The Chief informed them, trying to keep his emotions in check.
He was met with a sea of serious yet blank faces.
"It's Addison Shepherd, two GSW's. One to her right shoulder and one to her chest. Now let's move, people!" The Chief ordered.
"Derek, I need you to step back." Miranda Bailey told him as the gurney was rushed through the ER.
"I'm not leaving her, you can forget it!" He yelled at her, not really meaning too.
As Miranda went to say something else to him, the machines that Addison was hooked up crashed.
She went into cardiac arrest due to the blood loss and shock. She had sustained from the shooting.
"Addison! Addison! No no no no, come back, honey! Don't do this to me! You fight this god dammit! You hear me Addison Megan Forbes Montgomery Shepherd? You fight like hell! Because you don't have my permission to die, not today! not ever! Now come on, please! Addi bee, don't do this! Honey, please, No!". Derek yelled so loud that nearly the whole hospital could hear him, as he frantically performed CPR on his wife. Who lay unconscious and lifeless on a gurney in the middle of the ER.
As the team started the franic battle to save Addison Montgomery Shepherd's life, there was a silent vow that they wouldn't stop until there was absolutely nowhere else to go.
Miranda gently guided Derek out of the trauma until, as the battle raged on to save his wife's life was continued. They sat on the chairs that there directly opposite the trauma unit so that if anyone came out with news they would know about it.
"I should be in there with her, not out here pacing the damn corridors, I'm a neurosurgeon for christ sake! She deserves nothing but the best!". Derek yelled out in frustration.
"Derek, listen to me, no come on. Look at me, I need you to listen to me, good that's good. Now, you and I both know that you would be no good to her in there, you're a mess! They won't give up on her, they won't! I promise." Miranda told him in her usual nazi style, that she was famous for around the halls of Seattle Grace and refeared for.
"It's my fault, I should be the one lying in there with two bullet holes in my body! fighting my life!" He sobbed, putting his head in his hands.
"What happened?" Miranda asked softly.
"We were at the coffee close to the marina, we had finished lunch and were about to leave when this guy came in brandishing a gun and demanding everyone's valuables and to get on the floor. We did what he asked, he didn't have to shoot her, Miranda. I mean there he was holding a gun to me and still she tried to help everyone else." Derek tod her, at this Miranda let a ever so slightly smile pass her lips, that was their Addison . She thought to herself.
The doors of the trauma unit opened and the head of the trauma unit itself Dr Owen Hunt came out along with the Chief.
Both men carried the grimmest of expressions, making Derek jump to his feet.
"Derek, sit down son." The Chief began.
