"What's in a Hairstyle?"

Thanks to Megi52 and Twilight Rose2 for reviewing my oneshot, Helpless

I never cared for appearances before, for heavens sake, I was BLIND. In fact, I could be the worst looking girl in the world, and I wouldn't make a single comment about it. Until I met him. From what I had heard, he was a tall boy, with brown hair pulled back in a ponytail. And he wore blue. Not that it mattered. He loved meat, sarcasm, and his boomerang. He was quite bent on his appearance, and making a huge fuss out of every little mess up to his hair. That was when I started to care. A lot. I started wondering silly girlish things like, "Does my hair look okay?" or "Does my face have dirt on it?". He noticed too, and I suppose he decided to fix it.

Toph, you are beautiful.

"Toph, why is your hair always up like that? It looks uncomfortable," said Sokka.

"What about your ponytail?" I mocked. "Besides, what's it to you, Snoozles?" I retorted.

"Just wondering. Your bangs too, they are always in your face! I'm amazed you can see with them covering your eyes like that!"

"Ahem."

"Oh. Sorry."

"You should be."

We both sat back down after the third argument we had in the past hour. Katara and Aang had once again gone off to "practice waterbending", and they left Sokka and I back at the camp. We were silent for a while when I felt Sokka reach over and pull my bangs, tucking them behind my ears. My face got slightly warm when he did this, and I slapped his hand away.

"What was that for?" he said.

"Playing with my hair."

We once again sat in silence. He quickly shot out his arm, and pulled the other set of bangs behind my ear before I could punch him. Or kick him. Certainly something nasty would have befallen him if he hadn't said,

"Now I can see your face. I hate it when I can't tell what you are thinking, and you covering your eyes doesn't help."

"And?"

"And I like seeing what you are thinking. I like seeing your eyes too."

I could feel my face getting warmer, so I turned away.

"Why don't you ever leave your hair down, Toph?"

"It gets in the way of my earthbending."

"You aren't earthbending now, why don't you just take it down?"

"What if we got ambushed right now?"

"We won't!"

Our voices were getting louder.

"How do you know? Are you really that smart?"

"Yes! I am smart! and we won't get ambushed! Just take it down!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

Sokka reached over and grabbed my hairband, and my hair fell down to my waist. He paused for a moment, and I took the chance to earthbend him about fifty feet into the air. I stuck out my tongue.

"I win!"

I bended myself a tent, and sat down to cool off the steam that was surely rising out of my ears.

Katara's POV

We had just got back in time to see Toph earthbending Sokka skyward, ebony hair twisting along with her movements. It was glossy, and fell down to her waist.

"Wow, I never knew Toph had so much hair!" said Aang.

i smiled to myself. Toph really was beautiful in her own special way. And obvious too.

"You think Toph likes him?" said Aang.

"Definitely," I answered.
