"No! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I should have saved you! I should have-I should have-"

The horrible screams from Robin's room broke Starfire's heart.

She walked in, and saw him sprawled across the floor, blanket tangled around his legs.

He sat up when she saw her, breathing heavily. "-saved you..." He continued dejectedly, still caught in the midst of his nightmare.

"Robin? Are you having the 'bad dreams'?"

He bowed his head, cradling it in his arms.

She sat next to him on the floor, hugging him tightly. He embraced her back, taking off his mask, leaning against her with quiet sobs.

Starfire rubbed his back, soothing him. They sat like that for a while, holding in each other's warmth in silence, and leaning their heads together.

After a while, Robin finally spoke again. "It's just...I could have...I would have saved-"

Starfire stroked his spiked black hair, silencing him.

"There was nothing you could have done, Robin. Bad things will always happen. No matter what, it was not your fault."

More minutes of silence passed, as Robin thought about what Starfire had said.

She always knew what to say to make him feel better.

There was no one else in the world who he would rather have at his side if not her.

"Starfire?"

She turned her head, meeting his bright blue eyes with her fiery emerald ones.

Starfire smiled, and Robin's shoulders relaxed slightly.

It was that smile, that beautiful, cheerful, innocent smile, with just the perfect touch of warmth that lifted his spirits and made him hope again.

It was that smile that never let him give up.

She bent forwards at the same time that he did, and they kissed passionately, staying like that for ages.

When they finally pulled apart and Starfire made as if to leave, Robin held her arm. "Starfire?"

She turned back around. "Would you-could you, maybe, uh-" "Yes, Robin, I will." She said gently, and gave him a light kiss on his forehead.

He rummaged around in his closet for a few minutes before finally turning around and handing her a sleeping bag.

He helped her arrange it on the floor and he gave her another blanket. Then he climbed back into bed.

She tucked him in like he was just a little kid, and then bent forwards, kissing him once more.

"Have the 'sweet dreams', Robin." "Good night, Star."

Then she lay down on the floor in her sleeping bag.

Robin reached down a hand, and Starfire held on to it.

Just before they fell asleep, Robin whispered, "I love you."

And Starfire replied, "I love you too, Robin."

And they fell asleep, lulled by the soft, sweet sound of the slumbering tower, holding hands, and not dreaming about deaths on the flying trapeze, but thinking about each other, the sweetest dreams both of them could think of.

The End
