A/N: I know they've been dating for two years. It just didn't work for my story.
Jade loves coffee. It's her one weakness. She goes to Starbucks every morning before school. It's at Starbucks one morning that she meets him.
She's ordering a venti iced latte, because it's really hot outside. He's ordering an iced mocha. They pay, get their drinks, and walk right into each other. Cold coffee, whipped cream, chocolate, and ice cubes splash all over Jade. She screams.
Then she looks up, and there's this really cute guy standing in front of her in the same predicament. He meets her eyes. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" he says, in unison with her.
Jade smirks. "Jinx."
He rolls his eyes, but he's smiling. He goes over, grabs a bunch of napkins, and starts to wipe down her arms. "Gimme some of those." As she reaches for the napkins in his hand she catches a glimpse at his watch. "Shit."
"What's up?"
"School starts in half an hour and I'm still covered in coffee."
He looks at his wrist. "Damn, same. Where do you go?"
"Hollywood Arts." Jade admits, blushing a bit. To her surprise he looks pleasantly surprised.
"Cool, so do I! Are you in ninth?"
"Yeah. You?"
"Yup. I'm Beck Oliver."
"Jade West. I know a better way to get this off." He thinks she's talking about the coffee. She's talking about his shirt.
They walk the four blocks to her house, talking all the way. They share a favorite color (black), a love of acting, and an affinity for wearing combat boots. Jade takes him into her backyard and turns on the garden hose, soaking him from head to toe. "AHH! It's cold!" he shouts, turning the hose on her. She shrieks happily, fully aware of her suede boots getting ruined. But she doesn't care.
Beck and Jade ditch school that day. That afternoon, they lay on her beach towels in the sun. He's not wearing a shirt, and she's down to only her bra on top. She can't help but notice how he keeps moving closer to her.
At school the next day, Jade and Cat are sitting in Acting Class when she sees his leather jacket. She smiles at him and he waves. "Who's that?" Cat demands.
"Just a guy." Jade turns back to the teacher. She loves teasing Cat.
Beck meets her in the hallway after class. "Hey. I was just wondering if you wanted to go out sometime."
Instead of answering, she pulls him into a kiss. Within a week, they're exclusive.
A year later, he picks her up in the car he got for his sweet sixteen and takes her to Starbucks. They both get coffees, and get to school. She loves how he'll kiss her in public, loves how he always puts her over his friends. Hates how he flirts with that new girl, but knows that's the point. So she tries to ignore it.
Because she knows that he'll always be hers, no matter what.
Within a month, he's spotted hanging out with Alyssa Vaughn. So she dumps him. Stupid Jade. She ends up running to Tori in the middle of the night with a broken kite and a matching heart. When he won't take her back, she gets him a mad dog that almost kills his dad. And he loves her again. How sick is that?
They make a pact that she'll never overreact again and he'll never do- well, whatever it is he did- again. And everything's okay.
Their early morning coffee dates are back on. It's the best part of her day. One Saturday she gets a venti Frappuccino and they split it. They eat in for once and watch the people rush in and out. Jade goes in for a sip at the same time as him and they bump heads. She laughs, remembering the day they first met. She can't believe it was only a year ago.
Beck motions towards the drink, telling her to go first. But she can't. She's too distracted by his eyes.
She had never noticed it before, but Beck's eyes are the same color as coffee in the morning.
Jade loves coffee.
