She always loved everything about him, but his heart was already captured by another. Her own sister, no less. So she'll just stand there, smiling, being happy for the couple, and ignoring the never-ending pain in her heart. That's what she always does when she sees the two together, in love and happy.
Ukraine wanted to be with him, to have him hold her in her arms the way he held Belarus. She wanted to be the one to laugh with him and go to his favorite pancake place for breakfast. Immediately after thinking these thoughts, she would always shake her head and think they were selfish.
But were they wrong?
Ukraine saw him first. Ukraine loved him first. Ukraine cheered him on in the hockey game first. Yet Belarus was laughing with him. Belarus was kissing him. Belarus was hugging him. Why couldn't it be Ukraine? What made Belarus so special?
Ukraine didn't want to think these thoughts. She wanted be there for Belarus and hope that everything went smoothly. She wanted to do that, but her heart wasn't in it. In fact, her heart was probably being torn into two million pieces.
Ukraine always imagined herself being the one in Belarus's place, but then she woke up to reality. She just sat there, smiling, and pretending. She'll pretend that she doesn't want to demand that Belarus would leave him alone. She'll pretend that she never thought of him deciding that she was the one. Ukraine just stands there.
At that moment, he walks in, with Belarus, looking as happy as ever.
"Hey Katyusha," he says quietly (which Ukraine doubted he was like with Belarus). "I was just dropping Natalya off." Belarus smiled gently. He always managed to change people.
"Thank you," she thanks him.
"I'll see you tomorrow at the World Meeting," he says. Belarus nods and he gives her a soft kiss. Ukraine stands there, smiling like she was happy that they were together. But she wasn't.
I guess I'll just pretend I don't want him… Canada…
