The months of waiting and mourning had finally ended. He was home now, tucked away safely in bed – at least as safe as he could be in a home that was his no more.
He no longer slept soundly. The images zipped through his head, turning into nightmares that he couldn't face anymore.
She was his rock, holding him through it all. She held him until the demons went away, until he could breathe on his own.
"What do you need?" she would whisper, his head resting on her chest.
"I love you," he would reply. "You're all I need."
