Prologue
"Mom?" I called as I walked throughout the house. "Mom!" I yelled sharper. It wasn't like mom not to call or leave a note. I started to get really worried. What if something had happened to her? I shook off the feeling and went to take a shower, since that usually calms me down.
I shrugged off my clothes and turned on the water. It was too hot so I turned the knob colder, and I sat down on the tub to wait. I kept my hand under the waterfall and as soon as it was the right temperature, I got in, careful not to slip on the wet floor. Before I was even halfway finished, I heard a loud crash downstairs. My eyes shot open and I quickly got out.
I didn't even bother to go get dressed, I just kept the towel around myself, and I walked downstairs to investigate. "Mom?" I said. Another loud crash sounded in the kitchen. I quickly raced in to see if my mom was in trouble.
What I saw made my stomach lurch. My mom was sprawled across the floor, with a trail of blood behind her. A broken vase was laying next to her, the broken pieces covered in blood. I turned away and threw up, then called for an ambulance.
