Ever since she can remember the one standing across from her has hated her with the very blood in his body. Instead of being offended, she has met his hate with a passion so strong that, reconciliation would be moot point. However, here- today, his eyes don't hold the disgust they did when they were both seventeen. After five years, she notices that his icy-steel gray eyes are looking back at her with such warmth and longing that she can't help but take a step back. She feels a blush creeping on her face. She tears her eyes away and focuses on the bride and groom- her best friend and his cousin are tying the knot. Nonetheless, she can still feel a lingering gaze upon her face. She follows the newlyweds down the aisle, mentally slapping herself for the desire that flared when she met his gaze.
He watched her walk away but couldn't make a move to stop her. He wanted to hold her, to kiss her and do all the things that would make a nun blush. But he couldn't move, couldn't call out to her, lest his cousin think that he was trying to start something; and the last thing he needed was his cousin glaring daggers at him. So, he stood there while she danced away the night. He stood there while she hugged every single member of the wedding party except him. He stood there as she walked away into the darkness and cursed his luck that led him to fall in love with a woman who would never return his affections. He shook his head – love? Where did that come from? He couldn't possibly in love with someone like her. He put his glass of wine away and picked up a glass of water, thinking that clearly the wine had addled his brain.
Days, months and years go by and the two went their separate ways. They graduated, started their careers. But, when time came to settle down and make a commitment. The two couldn't do it for some force so strong held them back. So, every relationship they had failed and the future looked bleak, they immersed themselves in their work that they hardly took the time to breathe.
But, we all know that fate works in mysterious ways. For one day the icy-steel grey eyes met the emerald ones, and all the desire, the longing came flooding back. Neither knew what hit them, they didn't know who took the first step but suddenly they were face to face and all they knew was this felt right. This felt like home, and the iciness that had filled their hearts was filled love so warm that neither knew existed. When the girl with emerald eyes started to walk away, a hand stopped her and a voice soft like a baby's touch held her back and said "I don't think so, I let you walk away once but not now, not ever will you leave me."
To many it might seem a bit too harsh, possessive even but the girl wouldn't expect anything else from the man that held her hand. She's known him since their diaper days, and the man has a tendency to go a bit overboard. She did understand what he meant, and hope once again flared. All she had to do was nod, it was her decision, she could break his heart and walk away and he wouldn't stop her. Just like she knew him, he knew her; this relationship would be a partnership or he would find himself out on the porch with his heart in gutter and his belongings on the curb. And nod she did. Soon, she was engaged in a kiss that spoke volumes, it told a tale of hate, desire and love but most of all it told of a promise made and a promise accepted. A promise of forever, they know that they'll not live happily ever after, for both are head strong and stubborn but they'll live together creating a life for themselves that makes them happy, and at the end that's all that matters.
