DISCLAIMER: I do not own The Matrix or any of the characters in it. Also, this fic ignores all possible events that could take place in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Oh, and I'm a bit slow with techno lingo, so I'll avoid using it. Don't flame me for that please.
CHAPTER 1 - AGENT SMITH
Morpheus exited the apartment block where The Oracle lived. He had been given unsettling information from The Oracle. She had told him that even though Neo was The One, that didn't make him completely invulnerable. If his morale, his fighting spirit, were to be weakened enough, he would lose his ability to control the Matrix. It was quite possible for The One to fall, just like The One that had existed before him. Morpheus had been warned that something terrible was coming, something that she was unsure Neo, or any of the rebels, would survive.
Absorbed in his thoughts, Morpheus was about to call Tank to arrange for a phone to take him out of the Matrix when the woman walked past him transformed into Agent Smith.
"Hello, Morpheus," said Agent Smith with an emotionless venom.
Morpheus prepared to fight.
"I wouldn't try that, you know you'll lose," said the Agent, "Besides, I am here to seek your help, not your death."
"There's no way in Hell that I'm going to help you," snarled Morpheus.
"Oh, I believe you are," said Smith, "We have recently became aware that you left a family behind when you were unplugged from our system. A wife and a child. We could easily arrange to have them terminated."
Morpheus said nothing for nearly a minute. "Don't you dare hurt them," he eventually replied, "They've done nothing wrong."
"Nothing needs to happen to them, Morpheus," answered Agent Smith, "We only need you to perform a simple task. If you fulfil it, your family will be unplugged. If you don't, they will die."
"Do you want me to kill Neo?"
"No, of course not. We need to conduct some research him. We must capture him alive. We need to somehow weaken his fighting ability. Do you know a way to achieve this?"
Morpheus needed to help Neo. "No."
"Oh well, your family will have to die."
"Wait! I know a way. We have to hurt him emotionally, it will reduce his ability to control The Matrix."
The Agent thought in silence for a brief moment. "What about his companion, the one known as Trinity."
"What about Trinity?" asked Morpheus.
"I want you to kill her," said Agent Smith.
