Commander Gendo Ikari sat at his desk, no muscle moving, with no expression. And had anyone been watching they would have sworn that the man - asuming he could be called a man - was dead. In a way, perhaps he was. The Commander had been called everything; souless, insane, devious, and much, much worse. He was hated by his son, feared by everyone. And he didn't care. All he wanted was one moment, a chance to see something he had lost long ago. For that he would do anything.

I never thought
Thought that it would be our last goodbye

That one day love will fall out from the sky

Ikari.....the family name of his wife. His lost love. His dear Yui. And with her everything that had once made him human. She was, most likely, inside a monsterious creation. The result of a disastorious test.
Gendo made his way through NERV, towards that very monster.

Evangelion Unit 01 stood in its cage, staring. Most people would have thought the thing hiddious, and many found it frightening, though all knew of its power. And the neccisity of its existance. It was the only real hope of surviving the Angel attacks. Gendo, however, was very protective of the Eva and not because of the war. Yui's soul was in that purple and green creature.

Shinji chose that moment to walk in. Startled the young boy started to leave. Gendo stopped him with a glare. "What are you here for?"
"We have a sync test...."
The elder Ikari turned back to look at Unit 01 for a moment, a silent promise in his heart, while Shinji waited.
"Fine."

"Shinji, your sync rate is way down. What's on your mind?"
Said boy sighed, "Absolutely nothing Misato. I don't know what's on the go. It almost feels like the Eva doesn't want to sync with me today."
