The Woman Who Rose From the Ashes

Chapter 1

Elena gasped as she chocked on smoke filled air swallowing it as if she needed it to breath. Coughing she dropped off of her bed and immediately regretted it as she saw the flames emerging in her bedroom. She blinked as if she couldn't believe what was happening. She didn't know what the hell was going on but she knew she had to act fast. She looked over her shoulder and saw that flames swallowed her window as well as her door. She had no clue how to get out without burning alive. She had to brave the flames, but which venture point should she pick?

Making a decision, Elena bolted to the window, her bare feet meeting the flames, as she looked down from her second story window. Flames licked her skin as she cried out in pain wanting it to all be over. Taking a deep breath, Elena tried to climb out her window only to figure out that she couldn't. It was like there was a force field hovering over it. But that couldn't be possible. There was no such thing as force fields.

Panicking Elena went back in the room stepping in the flames. She was burning. She knew she was. Gritting her teeth she tried to make her way to her door, but she felt the flames winning. She was being burned alive and she couldn't do anything about it.

Crying out she fell into the flames as she watched fire cloud her vision. She patted her skin meeting melting flesh as she cried out until her screams were no more.

Her body still felt as if it were still burning when she opened her eyes gasping for clean air. Where was she? She looked around the room as the smell of cleaners filled her nostrils making her determined that she was in the hospital, but how had she even survived?

She looked down and gasped as she saw that none of the skin within her vision was burned. But how? She had saw it. She had felt her flesh melting off. How could it still be in tact?

Grimacing she reached for the call button and waited for the worst to happen. She had seen the flames and she knew that no one should have been alive. She still hadn't figured out how she was still alive yet. Before she could come up with an answer an elderly woman in white came to her bed and wrote down her vitals before even bothering to talk to Elena.

"I was wondering when you were going to wake up. You've been out for a couple of days."

"Wh-What happened?" she asked her throat feeling as if it were on fire.

The woman looked at her with concern on her face wondering whether or not she should speak or not. Elena wished she would. She needed to know what was going on.

Finally after what seemed like forever a man entered the room and she sat up. Maybe finally she would get some answers.

"What happened?"

"Ms. Gilbert you were in an accident. Can you remember anything?"

"I remember fire and flames. I remember burning. Why? Why am I alive?"

"You see Elena no one really knows. The EMT's found you in the ruins of your burned house with only a burn mark on your face. There was no way you should have survived. It was a real life miracle."

Questions flooded through Elena's mind as she felt her world suffocating around her. What the hell was going on here?
