"Percy! Percy!" Annabeth called out in her sleep. I was sitting in a chair in the Athena cabin watching over Annabeth sleep. I jumped up and ran to her side.
"Wise Girl, Annabeth! I'm right here, wake up. It's not real. I'm never leaving you!" She awoke with a start, breathing hard.
"Percy," she whispered hoarsely. I took her hand gently.
"Tartarus again?" I asked. She nodded wordlessly.
"You can talk about it. It'll help," I said. She breathed deeply.
"I-I didn't stop you…" she said trailing off. I knew what she meant.
"And then all of a sudden she lunged forward and she k-k killed you."Annabeth said her voice raw. I sat on the edge of the bed and stroked her hair. She sat up slightly and put her head on my chest. I kissed her head. In return she lifted up and pressed her lips gently against mine. I deepened it and then pulled away.
"It was a nightmare. I'm right here, I'm never leaving you," I said my voice strong. As much as it bothered me seeing Annabeth like this, I meant what I said. I'm never leaving her. My Wise Girl. My Annabeth.
"I love you Percy," Annabeth whispered.
"I'm never leaving you either," she added.
"I love you more Annabeth."
She smiled and fell back asleep against my chest, near my heart, where she will always belong.
