Chapter 1: Art, Art, Art

Whoever said it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all was an idiot. Okay... maybe they were dead on. It's been four years since he walked out of my life. It tears me apart sometime to think that he is no longer in my life, but I know i'm better off for it.

Feeling betrayed by the only man you have ever loved wasn't exactly a party though.

Now I just have to suck it up and move on with my life. I mean who am I kidding? It's been four years.

I am going to an art institute in New York. It will be nice to get my mind off of things and focus on my art. Did I mention I love to paint? It's the only thing that I have ever felt true passion for. Well... sort of the only thing, but I have to get over that.

Ding,Ding,Ding,

I almost forgot that Charlie was picking me up to take me to the airport. Today is freshmen orientation! I am going to an art institute in New York. Although I couldn't be more excited, I think I am going to skip the whole "You are the future" speech and just check into my room.

I answered the door and was greeting with an awkward hug from Charlie. My dad wasn't exactly a huge part of my childhood, but that wasn't really his fault. My mother moved to Phoenix and it wasn't exactly cheap to buy a plane ticket every year. I moved in with my dad my sophomore year so I could let mom and my step-dad Phil have some time alone.

Charlie and I packed into my little red truck and we headed to the airport. It was awkward on the way there. It's always awkward with Charlie. I love my dad to death but we are too much alike. We don't really express our feelings and together it makes every situation awkward.

We finally pulled up to the airport and I grabbed my bag and said a quick "I love you, see you later dad." I couldn't wait to get there. Hundreds of people just like me with a passion for art were calling.

After a long wait to get my baggage checked and give the attendant my ticket, I was finally on the plane. I settled in and popped my earphones in. Hopefully the plane ride wouldn't feel like an eternity.

After a while I drifted off and was awoken by the flight attendant telling me that we were almost there. I can't believe I slept for almost six hours.

When the flight landed, I got my bag out of the over head compartment. I rushed out of the airport as quickly as I could. New York here I come!
