Ray Archer sat tiredly on his bed, his hands grabbing the mattress for support. The white, stressed shirt hung loosely around his upper body as he looked out the window. It was nightfall and what a beautiful night it was. The sky was cleared and the moon shined so bright, the evil shadows hid in the darkness. Archer was exhausted since today was a very productive day for him and his cheerful nephew, Van Madsen.
The two went fishing since the weather was perfect: sunshine and warm temperatures around the mid-sixties. Ray still could picture his nephew's blue eyes twinkling with excitement when they caught their first fish. His face reminded him of…
"Tommy…" Ray whispered softly to the air; he sighed sadly at the name.
Thomas Madsen.
His own brother. His own blood. His best friend.
It was slightly depressing that Ray wished he could turn back time. Turn it back when life was simpler. More innocent. Even though Tommy was at Alcatraz, being treated like a disgusting rat, like a vile disease, he still had his nephew.
Van Madsen.
Ray knows that Van is Tommy's son. That he is Van's uncle, but Van doesn't know that Ray was his biological uncle. All Van knows that Ray was a best friend of his father and his own guardian. Van believes he doesn't have a family and who could blame him.
His mother is dead.
His grandparents are dead.
His father is in prison.
Everyone he loves is gone.

Ray Archer is here for him. He is here to help guide Van with his life; if Tommy can't be in Van's life, then Ray would fill in. That is what brothers do right? Help one another out in difficult situations.
