The evening deteriorated fairly rapidly from that encounter. Will could sense Alicia wanted to get out of there as fast as possible as she could feel Peters eyes on her back. He Asked her "do you want to get out of here?". She nodded and gulped the remaining wine in her glass. As she got up she said sais she'll wait for Will outside. She wasn't going to argue about paying the bill as quite frankly she wanted to meet Frank and Rob on her own without Will. That would just be too awkward.
As she walked over to Peter's table, she felt a twang of guilt and then annoyance at herself for feeling that way. She had not done anything wrong. As she reached his table, his two friends Frank and Rob got up to greet her. Peter remained seated staring at his glass of whiskey which she noticed he was already nearly through. She exchanged small talk with Peters friends but with Peter not saying a word, all three of them were starting to feel a bit uncomfortable particularly since she was quite sure Peter had told his friends about their current state of marriage. They offered to get her a drink which she declined quickly as she could see Will paying and wanted to leave. "well, bye then..keep in touch" she told Peters friends. She turned to Peter and said "see you Peter". This brought him back to reality as he turned to her and asked "how you getting home?". When she didn't say anything he looked at her and announced "ill drop you". He was already on his feet when she told him sternly "Ive got a lift home Peter. Ill see you". With that she was out of the door. Peter watched Will follow her out and together they walked to his car before it disappeared out of his sight.
He sat down depressed with a million thoughts running through his head. He was out of his seat as soon as he had sat down, putting his jacket on. Luckily for him his friends knew him too well. Frank reached out to Peter and tugged him onto his seat and gently told him "Don't even think about it..you'll make a bad situation worse and its not going to earn you any brownie points in Alicias eyes". "What am I supposed to do Frank? Let Will freakin Gardner take my wife home and kiss her goodnight?" As he said these words he sat down as he knew Frank was right but he felt he was losing this battle and he couldn't take his mind of his wife and Will in that booth, holding hands, kissing..his mind was wandering he knew that but he felt helpless.
As the car pulled up in front of Alicias apartment, she turned to Will and thanked him. Will wasn't going to waste any more time. As she opened the car door she was stopped by Wills hand on hers. She looked at him questioningly. Alicia im in love with you and you know it too. I need to know whether I have a chance here or not.? He asked hesitantly. She shut the door gently and "Will I wish I could say I love you too. – this would be a whole lot simpler if did..and God a part of me does Will..".He looked at her confused.."what do you mean part of you?". Part of me that wants to cling to our college days when we were carefree but the truth of the matter is as much as I love you and I cant imagine my life without you, the bottom line is I love my husband more. I know that's harsh but does that make sense to you?"
