Car Keys
A sense of relief washed over Josh as the final bell of the school year rang. He made a beeline for his locker as soon as the bell rang. Drake was already waiting for him when he got there.
"You as excited as I am?" Josh grinned.
"Uh, yeah." Drake held up car keys. "We're finally going to drive all the way down to San Fran in our own car! Why wouldn't I be excited?"
Mindy stopped in front of Drake at that moment, snatching the keys from his hand. "Hey! What gives?" Drake cried, trying to grab the keys back.
"Didn't you hear? I'm going to San Francisco this summer."
"So?"
"So that means I need a way to get down there. Here's the part where your car comes into play." Mindy smiled.
"Who the heck told you that you could use our car?" Drake asked as Josh clamped his hands over his brother's ears.
Surprised, Mindy glanced at her ex. "Don't tell me he doesn't know?"
"No, he doesn't and there's no reason to get him all wired up with the truth!"
Growling, Drake pushed Josh's hands away and glared at the duo. "What don't I know? What are you two keeping something secret from me?"
"Drake, look, buddy..." Josh started, trying to figure out an easy way to break the news to his brother.
"Megan and I are dating. She's the one who said to get your keys so her and I can go down to San Fran for the next two weeks."
"No way. That's so not true." Drake said, shaking his and rolling his eyes. "Come on, Mindy. We're old enough that you can tell me the truth."
"Wow, it's refreshing to see you'll never change, Drake." With a nod to Josh, Mindy walked off.
"HEY! Our car keys!"
"Let it go, dude. We're just going to have to find another way to travel." Josh said, sighing.
"Why would she lie like that?"
"About...?"
"That's she dating Megan. Megan's doesn't swing like that." Drake looked at Josh oddly. "Right?"
"Er, you better ask her yourself. Here she comes."
Megan walked by her brothers and stopped, remembering something. With a tilt of her head she looked at the boys.
"Did Mindy drop by?"
"Yeah and she took my car keys." Drake sulked.
"Oh good. See you boobs in two weeks then."
"Wait, so it's true?"
Megan looked at her brother oddly, laughed, and walked off without another world.
"Megan...!"
The laughter echoed down the emptying school hallway.
