Perplexity

I'm suddenly floating through white, fluffy clouds. They tickle my nose as they rush by. I'm flying. It's a magical feeling full of joy and thrill. I feel amazing. There are no limits. I am invincible. It's fairly relaxing, drifting through the sky and looking at the perfect landscape below.

I see soaring mountains with snowy peaks and deep valleys dividing them. I see rivers originating from the icy summits and their crystal clear water leaping from the cliffs in their path. I see lush, green forests with towering pine trees dotted with sun-filled clearings. I see verdant fields full of waist-high wild grass and a sparkling, blue lake.

Where am I?

Suddenly the white clouds turn black and block out the dazzling sun. The land plunges into darkness. Cold, hard rain batters down and lightening slices through the thick, black air. The sound of thunder rings in my ears.

I dive down to avoid being struck by lightening. I glide among the mountains looking for a place to land. I look to my left and see a large plateau. I swoop down and land near the mountain side. I sit and watch the magnificent show being created in the sky by the lightening. Then the storm passes and I see clear blue sky again.

I get up and float over to the edge. I lie down and peek over the end at the distant ground. Without warning, the stone beneath me crumbles and collapses, sending me plummeting to the rocky earth.

My heart races. My stomach flips. I feel panic and horror, but just for a second because then:

I wake up.
