Hey guys!
This is a re-write to a story I did a couple of years ago. I never got to finish it, in fact, I barely made it to the 5th chapter. I didn't like how it was written at the time so I decided to just re-write it. If any of you readers out there recognizes the name "Kid At Heart" and read my story in the past then welcome back!
I promise the concept of this story is still the same, it's just executed differently with better writing lol. So please enjoy and here we go!
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto in any way and any of its properties.
Chapter 1
The blazing summer sun highlighted the boy's golden locks. His blue eyes shined as they looked like they contained oceans inside. His forehead was beginning to become damp due to his lucky inability to sweat heavily.
His father, famously known as the Hokage, has summoned him to his office. Which irked the blonde boy even more since his dad sent one of his assistants to pull him out of training.
"The bastard doesn't even have time to summon me himself", the blonde thought.
Soon the Hokage's tower was right in front of him. He sighed deeply and made his way through.
ooo
"Thank you for coming Boruto." the Hokage greeted.
Boruto didn't respond as he stuffed his hands deep into his pants pockets. His eyes analyzed the room, noticing that Shikamaru was right behind his dad.
"Great." he thought.
"Boruto you spray painted so many walls of Konoha..." his father began. He clasps his hands together, looking at him with a stern face. "Could you tell me why you did it?"
"So that's why he called me all the way over here," Boruto thought.
Public vandalism.
Well, it's not like it wasn't for a good cause.
The Konoha Animal Shelter told Boruto that they are having their annual animal carnival later on this month. They also told him that they would appreciate any sort of promotion to spread the word. Nothing creative came to mind in the young boy's head until he realized he can promote by painting all over the city.
So taking that into consideration Boruto spray painted "COME TO THE ANIMAL CARNIVAL JUNE 23TH AT KONOHA PARK!" on many different buildings all over town.
He mentally scoffed, who knew doing a positive thing can also get you into trouble.
"Boruto!"
The Hokage snapped the boy's mind back to reality as he almost forgot the hot water he was sitting in.
"Answer me." His father said in a serious tone. Boruto sucked in his teeth due to irritation.
"I spray painted the town just to promote the Animal Carnival that's happening later this month. Any more questions!?" the young blonde snapped back.
The Hokage showed his frustration by exhaling out his breath. He tends to have patience with his son but this time it ran short.
"Boruto, you need to grow up. You and I both know you are old enough to have common sense. I would expect from you to have some but I guess I'm sadly mistaken."
Ouch.
Boruto clenched his jaw, balling up his fist. His body was getting hot and all the visible veins all over his skin were popping out.
Not only did his father just patronize him. But he knew Shikamaru was listening while he was filing papers, so he just got humiliated right in front of him.
"Screw this dude," Boruto thought.
Boruto let out a scoff before facing his father. "You know...you adults really act like you were adults your whole life. You guys act like you didn't do the same dumb shit when you were younger..."
"Boruto-"
"I would really like to see how you were when you were my age. You probably would have done this same thing!" Boruto interrupted.
"..."
The Hokage didn't respond as he sweatdropped. Naruto knew deep down his son was right. The younger Naruto would of most likely have painted the whole town just to have an excuse to.
But is he going let his son know that?
No.
Naruto kept a stern poker face.
"Boruto I didn't mean it like tha-"
Naruto was interrupted again by his son's hand signaling him to stop. "Just cut the crap dad. All you see me as is your idiot, useless son. I get it..."
With that, the boy walked over to the front door. He came into a halt one more time before opening it.
"...Sorry..." he whispered under his breath. He said it so low so that his father couldn't hear him.
Boruto left the room, leaving a very regrettable and concerned Naruto. Shikamaru stayed silent as he just kept filing papers.
ooo
The blonde walked through the streets of Konoha until he reached the local park. He could go back to training with Konohamaru Sensei, but by the time he would come back, it would be time to go.
He wanted to be angry. He wanted to just kick something or punch someone in the face, to release all of his heated emotions. But Boruto was feeling more sad than angry, to say the least.
"...you need to grow up..."
"...you are old enough to have common sense..."
"...expect from you to have some but I guess I'm sadly mistaken..."
Those words were daggers into his heart.
All he wanted to do was to try to help.
All wanted was to prove his worth to his father.
All he wished for was recognition from his father.
He wants his old dad back.
The one that isn't too busy to even miss dinner most nights.
Boruto shook his head. He tried to push the gloomy emotions out. Without even looking ahead of him he continued on forward towards the park.
Thud!
Boruto bumped into someone causing him to bump his head hard. The blonde rubbed his head softly to ease the developing pain.
"Hey, watch were your...oh it's you." The boy looked up to see the raven-haired girl he knew all too well.
The lens of her crimson glasses shined from the falling sunlight, blocking her eyes. Her mean frown made her look more intimidating.
"Why weren't you back in training Boruto?" the girl greeted, her mean mug never leaving her face.
Boruto kept soothing his forehead to make the lingering pain go away. "Nice to see you too Sarada."
Sarada remained silent as she waited for his answer.
"If anything, why aren't you with Sensei, Miss Goody Good Good?" Boruto smirked teasingly.
"I had to run some paperwork for Sensei so he let me go early." she simply answered.
Boruto sweatdropped.
"Now what's your half-baked excuse?"
Boruto sucked in his teeth, "I had to go to that shitty old man's office, any more questions?"
Sarada's mean expression changed to a curious one. Of course, she knew who the "shitty old man" he was referring to.
The Hokage.
"Why was he called to Lord Hokage's office?" she thought.
Boruto let out an exhausted sigh, "Sarada, I really don't feel like dealing with you right now. I had a really crappy day today. Let's fight like cats and dogs so another time..."
The blonde continued walking towards the park with his hands stuffed in his pockets. Sarada watched after him as his body frame got smaller and smaller in her line of vision.
The girl's eyes shown concern for her teammate. "What's with him?"
ooo
Naruto opened the door, entering his quiet home. He released his feet from his black sandals and looked around the house. Soon someone peaked out from the kitchen. Naruto smiled when he realized who it was.
"Hinata."
His wife gave him a cheerful smile as her eyes glowed up. "Naruto, you're home!"
Naruto rubbed his head as he let out a nervous chuckle. "Well I'm just here to pick up something, I'm heading straight back to the office for the evening right after."
Hinata's smile shifted a bit, but still, she kept it up and cheerful. "That's fine. Well, I'm cooking dinner, you sure you can't stay for that?"
Naruto gave her the sorry eyes.
Hinata batted her eyes, "I'm making Shoyu ramen, your favorite."
Naruto couldn't say no to Shoyu ramen. That's it, Hinata got to him.
He sighed with a smile. "Well I am kinda hungry, I can spare an hour."
Naruto's stomach roared causing Hinata to chuckle a little. His wife gently motioned him over with her hands. "Come set the table while I fix the bowls."
ooo
The two were sitting at the dinner table, eating alone together in peaceful silence.
"So, where's Himawari?" Naruto asked before devouring his ramen.
Hinata finished slurping her noodles before answering. "She got invited to a sleepover from one of her classmates. She left about thirty minutes before you came home."
Naruto nodded before drinking his water. The conversation that filled the walls of the dining room went back to peaceful silence. Hinata thoughts led to Boruto.
"Have you seen Boruto? He usually comes home around this time," she asked. The concerned mother looked at the clock, knowing he comes home at least around 5:30.
6:17 P.M.
Naruto face couldn't hold the guilt he felt when thinking about Boruto. Hinata noticed this and set down her chopsticks.
"Honey?"
Naruto snapped out of his distracted daze. He saw the concern in his wife's eyes.
Naruto sighed, "I had an argument with Boruto today..."
Hinata remained silent but her expression became more worrisome.
Naruto set down his chopsticks, "Basically I told him that he didn't have common sense. I didn't mean to hurt him...I just got so frustrated with him at that moment I... I just wanted to talk some sense into him. That's all."
Hinata eyes softened. She reached over the table to grab his hand. She held it tightly and caressed her thumb over his knuckles.
Naruto looked up at her.
"You are trying your best and that's all that matters. Never forget he will love you no matter what and you will too. You and I both know this deep down," she reassured.
Naruto took in her words and smiled. He kissed her hands and rubbed them.
"You're right. Thank you, Hinata."
Hinata smiled sweetly.
The married couple continued to eat dinner, enjoying each other's company.
ooo
Boruto was strolling through the forest that was in the back of Konoha park. The sunset peaked its orange light through the cracks of the trees. The blonde didn't really have a destination he was walking to, he just wanted to clear his mind.
The sound of water broke his train of thought. He followed the distant sound until he stumbled upon a fountain. The water flowed nonstop, making mini waterfalls.
Boruto walked up, curious to why this fountain was hidden in the middle of the forest. He noticed all kinds of coins sitting idly at the bottom of the water. He dug in his right pocket, feeling some change in there.
He eventually took out a Ryo coin.
Flicking it forward, the coin made a plop into the water. He looked up at the orange and purple sky to think of something to wish for.
"Boruto, you need to grow up. You and I both know you are old enough to have common sense. I would expect from you to have some but I guess I'm sadly mistaken."
Boruto frowned as the words of his father repeated in his mind.
"Ugh! He thinks he's so perfect. He probably was way worse than me when he was younger. I wish I can see what he was like when he was my age."
The fountain kept the water flowing gently, as it did before.
Boruto sighed in disappointment.
"Why do people waste their money on this fountain anyway? What a joke..."
The blonde boy turned the opposite the direction from where he came. He decided to just go home since the orange sun was falling under the horizon.
Once he was out of sight all of the water from the fountain sparkled for a few seconds. It quickly went back to normal as there were no witnesses to what just happened.
ooo
Naruto was in his office, passed out sleeping in his chair. Mountains of paperwork were stacked up on his desk. Loud snores filled the office walls as he was in a deep sleep.
"Mmmm...I am the king of ramen laaanndd~"
The red thin-hand on the clock ticked at the last second, shifting the short-hand to the next hour.
12:00 A.M.
Naruto's body began to shrink slowly.
His short blonde hair became thicker and spikier. His current clothes became baggy, loosely fitting his small frame. His muscles became softer and his face became cheekier. The sound of his manly snores pitched higher, making his voice sound like a young boy.
There laid twelve-year-old Naruto as he continued to sleep away.
"Ramen, ramen, ramen can't you see? Sometimes your noodles just satisfy me~!" Naruto sang in his sleep.
Okay! So that's the first chapter, I hope you guys liked it. Please review, favorite, follow, and spread the word! I can't promise weekly updates but I will try my best to go through and finish this story full through. It won't be a stupid long fic but just enough to be like a little arc. So probably around to 20 to 30 max chapters.
Also, I just want to point out that when I writing that Boruto wished for Naruto to be his age I just thought in my mind, "Dude all you have to do is pull up Naruto episode 1 on Crunchyroll and you can see how he was like right there, like the rest of us did lolz." But I then I remembered that Boruto doesn't know that his dad had a whole show lol. But yeah just sharing a little author insight.
Alright, I all can say is thank you so much for reading and have a great day or night wherever you live.
