Agony

Only in the agony of parting do we look into the depths of love. Unknown.

We all go our separate ways, diary. It is that reason that love becomes almost like a risk and an act of stupidity. When you love someone, diary, you submit your entire being to that one person (your heart, your mind, your soul & your body.) You give it all to them in hopes that they will treat you like a person. Like somebody they love, not posses. Yet, even through all of this, you don't realize how much you rely on this person… until you have to leave them.

…….

The day was cool and breezy. School was nearing the end as May came to a close. She sighed. She would miss everyone she had come to know over the years. She would miss the magical moments they shared and the wondrous secrets they had uncovered within the walls of Hogwarts. The thought made her laugh as she remembered how troublesome her, Ron and Harry had been.

But most of all, she would miss him. She had changed him in so many ways, if only secretly. He was no longer the cruel boy who tortured people for pleasure, but a man who radiated power and intelligence. He was hers.

She smiled as he rose from the water and walked towards her. His blonde hair was ruffled in the wind and hung in small wisps in front of his steel grey eyes. He smiled, pulling her close. "What are you thinking about?" he asked as he nuzzled her cheek.

"The unlikely hood of all of this," she said as she rested her head on his shoulder. "Who would have thought that we, the pureblood and the muggle born would come together? It was so strange when you finally started softening. I thought I was dreaming," her voice had become a soft whisper.

"I began to understand that you couldn't base a person on their background. Look at my family, I didn't turn out like any of them." He pulled away, taking her hand in his and leading her down to the water's edge. "I don't know what drew me to you; perhaps it was the challenge of Hermione Granger." He laughed, "I didn't think I would fall in love with you at the time."

"Draco, what are we going to do after school?" She nibbled her lip as her brown eyes looked to his with sadness in their depths.

"Well, we'll move out of London. We'll find a quaint little house in Ireland, maybe. I always heard it was beautiful there. We can settle down away from the confines of my family name. We can live out our life together."

Hermione nodded, squeezing his hand tightly in hers. Though he spoke of such a wonderful life, she knew it would not happen. He knew it wouldn't. His dad had too many expectations of him to allow him to just slip away. Too many needs for him as the only heir.

Draco pulled her towards him as he lowered himself in the grass. They laid in each others arms underneath the shade of a weeping willow, just sharing the beauty of their love. They both harbored dreams they knew wouldn't come true.

And, they both held a love that they knew would never fade.
