Hello! This is my first fanfic, so it probably won't be that good! I got the idea while watching Les Misèrables. I'm not one of those people who makes you say nice things, so please speak your mind about this fanfic! =) Oh, and reviews would be nice if you have the time.

Maurice watched the life drain out of his beloved Cosette. His mind was numb as he realised that she would never come back, never. A single tear dripped out of his eye. He slowly stood up, and were it not for the dull ache in his head he would have marvelled that his legs still seemed to work, although jerky. He lifted Cosette's limp body up with him. The revolution, that took his beloved Cosette away from him, took so many more people including Jean Val Jean. If only he had gotten the note to her faster, if he had seen her... Yes, that was the way to think of it. The truth. "It's all my fault" He choked out, along with a sob. He slowly and stiffly started walking away, taking his beloved with him.

Eponine Walked down the alley, her eyes searching for her Maurice. She would tell him that she loved him when she found him, and they would be happy. Her mind drifted away, imagining happy years to come, their children, their house... Cosette would find another lover, but she would have this one chance at love: she was lucky to get this one in the first place, so she mustn't waste it. She came to the dead end of the alley, and paused, puzzled before she decided that he would be down by the river. She started on her way.

Maurice stood on the edge of the bridge, contemplating suicide. He delighted in the fact that his Cosette was only a step away. He could almost see her, dancing in the water and giggling. She reached out to him. 'Maurice...' She seemed to call with her face full of joy. He reached out to her. "Cosette..." He sighed. "A heart full of love" He started. "A heart full of you" She seemed to finish. "a single look and then I knew..." They sang, their voices full of what might have been. "Oh, Cosette." He whispered, reaching out to her with his fingers reaching into the water and trailing along the surface. The ghostly apparition vanished at his touch, with one last word lingering in the air: "Maurice..."

Eponine walked slowly down the bridge. She could see someone in the distance, standing on the edge of the bridge and singing into the water. She prayed that it wasn't Maurice, but as she got closer she recognised his voice. She wanted to scream, but she couldn't find the air. instead she started running. His were knees bent, ready to... what? He couldn't be about to jump! She was almost there, and then she was there. She reached out and pulled him away from the churning water. He let out a sob, and turned away from her. His knees crumpled. "Cosette!" He choked out. She clutched at him. "What happened!? Maurice? Maurice?" His only reply was "Get – Get away from me!" "Maurice! I'm not leaving! What happened?" She persisted. Then, before anyone knew what was happening, even Maurice himself, he hit her across the face. Tears streaked Eponine's face as she rocked back on her heels. Slowly, she got up and stiffly walked away.

Hope you liked it! Oh yeah, and this is Maurice X Eponine in case you haven't guessed. Also, just in case I forget to explain it in other chapters, Cosette stopped a bullet for Maurice and that's how she died. This story is set pretty soon after the revolution. I think that is how you spell his name, or is it Mauris? If you have time could someone tell me in a review? Thank you! I'll update probably soon... ^_^
