Love Amid Chaos
Papers littered every available table, broken only by cold, half-filled coffee cups and half-eaten meals. Jackets and coats covered the apartment floor; shoes lay in every corner and briefcases were stepped over. It was a big case, or big enough to warrant every spare minute being devoted to it. Love was brushed aside and soft kisses were few and far between.
Words were muttered across the table, just short sentences about the case notes or questions about various, unreliable witnesses. Occasionally their eye contact would linger, where they shared a small smile before returning diligently to their notes.
It was cruel career. Long, hard hours and complete devotion needed for the ultimate success. Human emotion had bred a pure love and despite their demanding work, it had prevailed. But continually it was pushed back, placed second on the priority list and forgotten for days when a big trial was occurring.
It was 4am. The morning was cold and the sky was absent of incandescent stars and a thick heavy cloud blanketed the city. Bobby kept his head propped up by tucking his hand under his chin, her eyes periodically closing for a few seconds before being forced open to read more mundane and minor details. Lindsey arm was stretched over the table with pieces of paper bunched under her, her head resting on her arm and eyes closed when sleep had overcome her just minutes before.
Bobby raised his head, watching his wife sleep with a small, lopsided grin on his face. He leaned over and trailed his fingers over her forearm, before reaching her fingers and entwining them with his own. Lindsey instinctively tightened her grip before she stirred slightly and her eyes flickered a few times before opening.
She sighed deeply and ran her other hand through her matted hair, giving a small smile to Bobby. "Guess I fell asleep."
Bobby laughed softly, placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles. "I think we're prepared enough and we definitely need some sleep."
Lindsey nodded and closed her eyes briefly before allowing Bobby to pull her to her feet. Stopping momentarily, she leant into him, wrapping her arms around his back and placing her head on his chest. "I love you." She whispered into his shirt, her muffled words drifting to his ears.
Bobby smiled and hugged her tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "I love you too."
Their days were chaotic and nights often long and work focussed, but they had found in each other, true and everlasting love. They were two souls that would bask together for eternity.
