This is an old challenge that I just never posted. I kind of needed to back up out of the fanfic so I could work on other things. I'm trying to get back into it a bit and at least finish my longer fics. So I'm going to try and rejoin the drabble pack. Hope that's ok? Word was Steady.

He carves another groove below the crack in the wall.
His only link to the outside.
So slender it allows only the barest sliver of light into the unrelenting darkness.
He knows it's sunlight because of the stealthy way it slips in, swells, then slips out again.
He lays on his back.
One unsteady hand caresses the cold brick as blackness chases the last of the light.
Again.
He fingers the grooves.
Counts them.
…..sixteen, seventeen, eight…..
CRASH!
And screams.
The door creaks open.
The brightness sears his eyes.
He smells blood.
Lots of it.
"Dean?"
"'Bout damn time Sammy."
