LEGACY OF KAIN
SOUL REAVER
The Flames of Nosgoth
Introduction
Death has no meaning anymore. It exists now only as a memory. It is a lost luxury that I can never experience. The peacefulness of death was robbed from me by Kain's greed. His lust for power cursed my realm to an utter apocalypse. Nature itself was rejecting the evil he had cast here. The forests were like rows upon rows of crumbling pillars, and the sky was scorched as if by the hand of Lucifer himself. A true symbol of the horrors Kain had set out.
As for me, I am Raziel, another of his victims. At the time, Kain was deified. It was foretold that soon, Kain would enter the chrysalis, and upon emerging would take on a new form. However, I had the honor of surpassing my then lord. I had the dark gift of wings, and the blessings of flight. And for my transgression, Kain gave me a new reward, agony.
I had surpassed him, and for this my wings were torn from my body. All that now remained were the empty flaps of skin protruding from my beaten shoulders. He had ordered me to be tossed into the abyss the following evening. In the meantime, I was beaten as much as a vampire could be, until finally, at sunset, I was tossed into the vortex. The ice cold water was, to a vampire, like a molten bath. I was dissolving under the pressures of the vortex, my body being ripped apart in the ever-swirling torture. When I finally hit the bottom, it was a millenium later, and my body had finally lost its battle.
However, I would get no peace. I somehow felt the strength to stand return to me. I was in total pain, but it was different than pain, as mortals would feel it. It was not of the body, but of the soul. I was dead, but my body was still mine. I looked at myself up and down; the abyss had destroyed my soul as well. My jaw was gone, as well as my internal organs. All I had were my rags and my battered flaps of skin hanging like a cape from my shoulders.
After I was done salvaging my disgust and turning it into hate; I heard the voice calling to me. I don't know if it was the will of the vortex, or God, or the very Lucifer that spawned our kind. Who ever it was, all it did was foster my anger, encouraging me to go after Kain, and win back my revenge, as well as the souls of those lost by his hand. And I did just that.
I followed Kain all throughout Nosgoth, Only to find that my brothers had evolved as well. All of them did so before their master, and yet none was punished as I was. Although, they did not require it, their bodies could not sustain them, and they were easily defeated.
When I had Kain cornered, After taking his most prized weapon from him, the soul reaver, and shattering it, absorbing its soul, he slipped away. He disappeared through a rift created in his final temple. I pursued him only to find my self here, in a New World. It was nothing like Nosgoth, and yet I got a sense of a corruption nearly identical to that of my world. This New World was called Earth.
