BB: I have a really bad habit about starting with short chapters, don't I? Oh well. So Peoples, Here it is, before it's original release date, THE FIRST CHAPTER OF SHATTERING SAND!!

Shay: WOO HOOO!!

Alleanye: YOu know, you'll leave in half of the chapters. This is your past.

Shay: I can handle it!!

Illiana: Can you?

Shay: -smile slips- Probably not.

Viven: Both of you leave her alone! Listen, BB only owns Shay and the plot. The rest belongs to Kishimoto-san. PLease enjoy.

Illiana: And review. I'm just going to say it now, instead of after the chapter.

"Mommy, don't leave me here, please!" The little blonde girl screamed, tear running down her face. But her mother could not hear her, as the smell of gasoline strengthened.

But the woman was walking away. The little girl could see the shininess of the fuel glimmering on her mother's nightgown. She could see her father nearby, a lit match in his hand.

"NO!!" the little girl screamed. She was only six, but she knew what happened when you mixed fire and gasoline.

But it was too late. The man dropped the match, and the little girl's mother burst into flame. The little girl screamed, and moved to run to her mother, but her hands were tied to the wall. She fought the bonds, but they wouldn't budge. The little girl turned to see her father walking towards her, a gas can in one hand, a lit match in the other.

Shayshaymura Gaffer shot straight up in bed, biting her tongue to keep from screaming. Tears were pouring down her face, and her body was shaking and shivering. She watched the shadows on the wall, tasting blood in her mouth from her tongue.

Dear Kami, how many was that now? How many nightmares had she had, since she had seen him again? How many times had she seen her mother's death, or the green-eyed chil-

No, She thought firmly. Don't think about that. Don't think about anything. Just get up, go get a drink, and then go back to sleep. And this time, get Shu.

She knew better, she mused as she rose. She knew better then to go to bed without her dog beside her. The large brown dog was the only thing that kept the nightmares away. Though he was better.

She shook her head. She had to get him out of her mind. Thinking about him would make her go insane. It would make her fall apart. She couldn't fall apart. She couldn't let anyone see what she was thinking.

After years of surviving, she had relied on only one person, and now that he was gone, she couldn't rely on anyone.

Across town, he was sitting on his bed, his mind wandering from the book in his hand. Gaara Subaku's thoughts were glued to the blue-violet eyed woman of his past.

He had fallen in love with her, and she was the one haunting his mind. His apartment wasn't the largest in the world, but with her in his mind, and not with him, the home seemed huge and empty.

Gaara cursed under his breath, as he threw himself from the bed. He wasn't going to sleep, he knew that. He had been an insomniac when he was a child, but had long since gotten over it. But now, thinking about her, he knew he wouldn't be sleeping anytime soon.

He stormed through the penthouse, heading towards his study. He had a bottle of Drunk Slug scotch there, that his brother had gotten him as a joke. Gaara had never opened it, but he needed something to drink.

He entered the study, slamming the door behind him, and grabbed the bottle and a glass. He viciously wrenched the bottle opened, and poured it into the glass. He tilted the glass back, and the liquid burned as it went down. He slammed the glass on a desk, nearly breaking it. He refilled the glass, and drank that too.

But not even liquor could get her blue-violet eyes out of his head.
