Knocking on my door, Jane asked "Can I come in?"
"Of course"
Entering and shutting the door behind her, she said with a smile "Jester, I have a surprise for you"
"Like what Jane?"
Teasingly, she said "Close you're eyes and no peeking"
It is a present?
"Is it a new pair of tights?"
"No, now close your eyes"
Closing my eyes I waited in anticipation "Jester, we've been friends for a long time"
"Yes, we have. Can I open my eyes now?"
"No I'm not finished. And the thing is I don't want to be your friend anymore."
What? This isn't happening
"Jane did I do something wrong?"
"Everything you do are things I cannot bear. Your kindness, your smile, the way you treat me, the way your eyes sparkle. Because of those things, I cannot be your friend anymore"
How can this be, I thought I was doing all the right things?
"Jane I'll stop doing what you don't like, but please I still want to be friends"
"It's already too late, nothing you do will change it"
This must be a nightmare
"But..."
"And that's why I came to tell you..."
"Jane, in not sure I want to hear it"
"That is why I'm here to tell you..."
That you hate me
"I love you Jester"
What?
"But you just said all the things I do are things you cannot bear?"
"My heart couldn't bear it"
This isn't real
"I still don't understand"
"Open your eyes now"
Upon opening my eyes, Jane was kneeling on one knee "I cannot be your friend anymore, because I don't want that anymore. I want to be much more than that"
I must me dreaming again
My brain couldn't register the words being uttered out of Jane's mouth, all I could say was "What?"
Taking out a ring from her pocket, shaped like a jester hat, she asked "I love you Jester, will you marry me?"
"Aren't I the one that's supposed to do that?"
"You know I'm not your average girl"
"And I'm not your average boy"
"So will you be my husband?"
"Aren't you my favorite lady knight?"
"I'm the only lady knight"
"That's what makes you my favorite. And I will stop loving you when an apple grows from a mango tree on the 30th of February."
"But that will never happen?"
Of course, because I've always loved you. If this is a dream, I hope to never wake.
"Now and forever, my answer would always be yes. As your soon to be husband I have something to ask"
Taking a ring from my pocket shaped like the sun, I kneeled on one knee, and making direct eye contact, I asked "Like the sun, my love for you will never cease. So, my lady knight Jane, will you be my wife?"
"Yes Jester, only if you'll be my husband?"
Taking her into an embrace, I said softly "Yes Jane, I'll only love you until the end of time"
Separating from my embrace, she took my hand and said "Let's go"
"Where?"
"If time ends tomorrow, than let's celebrate today."
Hand I'm hand, we ran all around the castle, telling everyone our good news. It surely was a sweet surprise.
