AN: My own irritations in fic form. So many of my old school friends are getting engaged and married at the moment. At the last announcement, one particular friend pointed at me and started saying "you'll be next, you'll be next." While I'm not completely against the idea of marriage, there are other things I would rather do at the moment, like go travelling, finish my education, get a good job and so on. OK, I'll shut up now. Prompt number 38 - "I wanna bathe with you in the sea."
"So, Kairi, when are the two of you planning on getting married?"
Kairi spluttered, spitting the mouthful of coffee she'd just taken out all over the table. Hastily, she grabbed a pile of napkins and cleared up the mess.
"Sora, I seriously hope you're joking. Please tell me that's your idea of a joke."
"I am being serious. You and Axel have been together for ages now, and he hasn't proposed to you yet. Why don't you ask him?"
"Since when did it bother you?"
"You're already living with him. I don't know why you won't make it official."
"Axel and I are happy just the way we are. I don't need a diamond ring and a piece of paper to prove anything. Besides," she grimaced, "getting married would mean walking up a church aisle wearing something that resembles a meringue. Naminé may have looked good in white, but I definitely don't."
"Planning on living in sin for the rest of your lives, then?"
"Hopefully, yes."
………………
When she eventually returned home, thoroughly irritated, she slammed the front door as hard as she could. Within seconds, Axel had appeared, wrapping his arms around her.
"Sora been getting on your case again?"
"When doesn't he? Ever since he and Riku got married last year, he hasn't shut up about it."
Axel ran his fingers through Kairi's hair, smoothing it down. The action had a calming effect on her.
"You know I love you, Axel."
"Of course I do. Sora's just being an idiot, as usual."
"What's that song… I wanna stand with you on a mountain, I wanna bathe with you in the sea… and all the rest of it? Well, I do. I just don't like the idea of getting married, that's all."
"Tell him that. I understand, and what's more, I agree with you." He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, and she clung to him. Sora would never be able to understand how much they needed each other.
AN: Leave a review, make my day.
