Johnny's Goodbye

I went to the hospital looking for a friend

Little did I know he would soon be dead.

I saw Two-bit standing next to me

I saw his dark eyes; they said 'leave him be.'

We went in the hospital looking for the nurse

We asked her to see him preparing for the worst.

Johnny was a good boy; he was a hero,

But since he was a greaser he was treated like

a zero.

There he laid asleep in the bed, looking so meek

I cried, and cried. Tears flew down my face like a

trickling creek.

I heard a grunt and looked up; I saw his black

eyes.

I also knew there was a shattered soul that lied

deep inside.

"Johnny," I said quietly so my voice wouldn't crack.

He trembled "Ponyboy ……… I'm dying." I almost

broke down cause of the courage I lacked.

His last words to me were, "Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold."

I looked down; his hands were white and cold.

I sat there silently in shock.

It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

I was there in silence I thought I was going to hurl,

But hey at least he's out of this cruel world.
