Flying Lessons

Artemis was excitedly pacing his room. Butler was still giving him worried looks.

"Artemis, are you sure about this? Flying is not something that comes naturally to humans. You could get really hurt."

"Honestly Butler, it took me ages to convince Holly to let me do this, I'm not backing out now. Besides, I'm a genius how hard can it be?"

Butler just smiled and went to monitor the perimeter.

"Right Mudboy, these wings are expensive, so try not to break them."

Artemis smiled, Holly had just spent 2 hours instructing him, he was ready. Especially after reading the LEP training manual, that had taken him all of 5 minutes to hack. He strapped on the wings and pushed the joystick forward, shooting into the air.

Holly gasped, but quickly followed him up. He was good, she would have almost said he had done this before. Then Artemis's luck ran out. An extravagant backwards loop turned into a rapid ground dive, and Holly dashed after him. The wings spiralled Artemis into one of the tall oaks, and his decent slowed enough for Holly to catch up.

She scooped him in her arms and masterfully reversed his decent, settling down in the boughs of the oak. Artemis was dazed and smiled vaguely. Holly sighed and, laying her hand on Artemis's cheek, sent the magic down her fingertips. Artemis's eyes refocused, staring into Holly's.

"Sorry Holly."

" That's ok Arty, I didn't expect you to be perfect first try."

"No, sorry for this."

Artemis leaned in towards Holly and, with one hand behind her back and one holding her hand to his face, kissed her, full and on the lips. He released her and pulled back.

"Sorry, you'll probably hit me now."

Holly didn't answer. She pulled herself down the branch towards Artemis and kissed him back. They sat there for some time shielded by the broad oak leaves. When Artemis eventually came back into the house he was strangely quiet, and told Butler that flying was an experience he would never forget.
