Jester was alone in the woods. He was a hill by the stream that lead to the moat of Kippernium practicing on his Lute. The day had not been very eventful. The King had done everything kingly, the queen acted queenly. The princess screamed because the prince had stolen her bunny. The prince had attacked Jester several times with a wooden sword leaving a very nasty mark on his shoulder. The lady-in-waiting took the children to there lessons. The chambalin followed the king around. Gunther sucked up to Sir Theodore and Sir Ivon. Smithy, Pepper, and Rake had done work all day. And then there was Jane. He had watched her practice sword fighting with a dummy and had cheered for her while she fought Gunther. He did not know why he did it. He just wanted to make Jane happy whenever he could. It was sort of a hobby. 'No. Not a hobby'. Jester stopped playing his lute. 'It is a desperate attempt to make Jane notice how I feel.' Jester wondered what Jane did feel towards him. Just then he heard something.
Jane had had a rather hard time beating Gunther today and was quite worn out. Jester had cheered her on the whole time. 'He is so good to me.' She thought. But lately Jester had grown more distant. Jane had made up her mind that she was determined to spend more time with him. She had explained to Dragon that she needed to be alone with other people and not just with him all the him, though she did enjoy it. Dragon had huffed, but, he sort of understood. But the main reason for telling Dragon was so she could get to be alone with Jester, as she had not done so much of that in quite a long time. Jane had finished her chores and was heading of to find Jester as he had wandered of into the wood saying that it might help give him inspiration for a new ballad.
"Jester!" It was Jane. Jester turned around and saw Jane walking towards him. She was smiling. He smiled back. Jane was walking fast and not paying attention to what she was doing. Just as she was getting close she tripped an stumbled on a rock and fell onto Jester. They both began to roll downhill. Jane was panicing. Jester held onto Jane and they fell. 'We will fall into the river at this rate, and neither of us know how to swim!' Jester thought. They had to stop. He held to Jane with his right hand wrapped tight around waist. He stuck his left hand out and attempted to grab something. Anything. He could not see what was passing as they rolled. Then he felt his hand touch something. He held on tight. They came to a sudden stop. It was so sudden that Jane lurched forward, her lips pressed tight against Jesters. Jane stopped thinking for a few moments. She had never kissed someone before, strike her mother of course. 'Oh, just take the plunge!' Jester swallowed. He did not know what to do. He was going to pull away when he felt Jane's bottom lip go up a bit, her hands going around his neck. 'Is she…" Jester was so lost that he did not realize that he too was kissing her back. He let go of the tree he was holding onto and put his other hand around her waist. Jane let her right hand go over his heart and felt it pounding in his chest. After a few moments the broke apart both looking deep into each others eyes. Jester grinned at Jane. They said nothing as Jester got up then carefully pulled Jane into a standing position. Jane finally said
"Maybe we should go for a walk." Jester nodded his head.
"I think that would be an excellent idea." Jester replied. Jane was going to start walking when Jester said "Jane" Jane looked at him.
"Yes?" And Jester pulled her into another firm kiss.
