(previous scene: Brennan and Booth discuss the end of the case and decide to order Thai Food)

Temperance looked over at her partner, who was currently engrossed in filing out his portion of the case report. He sat slouched in the chair, long legs stretched out beneath him, one arm resting on the glass table top, the other was propped on the arm of the chair, supporting his head. She watched as his eyes darted over the lines of text, making quick notations on a legal pad as he progressed. Satisfied that he was completely distracted, she slowly inched her chopsticks towards his plate as casually as possible, focused on procuring the last bit of mee krob. Just as the bamboo closed around the tasty morsel, her concentration was shattered by a sudden slap on the hand.

"Ow!" she cried, cradling her injured extremity and shooting daggers at the source of her pain, who in turn was smirking in her direction.

"Don't look at me like that. You were trying to take my mee krob! Next time I'm ordering an entire portion just for me, since you always try and eat it all." He stated simply, pushing the hunk of crispy noodles around on his plate teasingly.

"I do not! You weren't eating that piece and it's not good to leave that type of food out for extended periods of time. It shouldn be-"

"Uh huh. Whatever you say, Bones. . Nice try at being sneaky, by the way. Did one of your three martial arts prepare you for that?"

"What?"

"Never mind." he grinned, shaking his head. Much to his partner's dismay, he popped the food in question into his mouth and went back to the case report. Her efforts totally thwarted, she sat back in her chair and set to work on her portion of the case, deciding that if Booth was willing to miss an appointment to help her with this, she should at least make an attempt to get something done. However, she found it difficult to concentrate. A small part of her, an annoyingly irrational part of her brain that she wished to cover in concrete and sink into the ocean, was curious as to the outcome of the date between Angela and Hodgins. Had it gone horribly awry as Cam had predicted, or was there really a possibility that workplace romance had a chance of success? Despite her years of schooling, was she wrong in thinking that the entire hierarchy of the office would be subverted by allowing two professional acquaintances to pursue a relationship of a personal nature? What would happen if, hypothetically speaking, she and Booth had come to a mutual agreement to initiate such a relationship? Would it be doomed to failure, or was there a small chance that it was possible to be more than just partners? Her stomach did a little flip-flop at this thought and she could feel heat rising in her cheeks. Shaking her head to clear her mind of such preposterous notions and deciding to have a much needed conversation with Angela later, she dived back into work, smiling ever so slightly.
