She's known from the beginning that Shauna has always been closer to her than the others—than even Calem, whose initial brilliance and allure have not superseded his too-distant attitude—but Serena isn't sure when her admiration of her friend's willowy body and rouge-stained cheeks turned into appreciation of a more selfish kind.
There are so many things she needs to address—that Shauna is female, that Shauna is also probably straight, that Serena thought she was, too—but she can't.
There are fireworks in her heart that won't extinguish.
