A/N: So this is, once again, taken from snapshot of my life. I hope that you enjoy it.
I don't know how he manages to have an entire conversation with someone else while still looking at me. It's unnerving; those brown eyes staring intensely at me while he is holding a fully-functioning conversation with Remus or Black. His eyes darken just enough for me to know what he is thinking, yet he continues to talk about homework or pranks or something else just as mundane.
It happens as I am sitting in the common room studying for charms. It is fairly late and the common room is quite empty. It is because of the lack of people that I am able to hear when the portrait hole swings open. He enters with the rest of the Quidditch team, looking tired and muddy from practice. I look up at their entrance and our eyes immediately meet. His eyes darken, yet he continues the conversation about practice, I assume, with Black. He does not smile or nod, just stares.
The team goes up to their respective dorms and I return to my studying.
I had lost track of time when a voice next to me clears its throat. I look up and my eyes immediately meet his brown ones. I quickly pull them away from his only to notice his attire. He had showered and changed after practice. His gray sweatpants hang low on his hips and reveal a strip of skin before the hem of his black tee. His black hair is still slightly damp. I, once again, tear my eyes away. This time, I place them on my notes where they can not get me into any more trouble.
"May I sit down?" His voice was soft and deep. I nod and gesture to the seat on the couch next to me. He sits. I feign studying, feeling his eyes on me in the form of an uncomfortable prickling on the back of my neck.
Finally, he breaks the silence. "Lily." That is it. My name. I look up and my eyes meet his brown ones. I had never noticed, before, how kind his eyes are.
I wait for him to continue and he does, softly. "You should get some sleep. It is two-am. The test is not until Thursday; you can study more tomorrow."
I was taken aback. I nod and gather my things. It is not until I am at the base of the staircase that he speaks again. Again, it is just my name. "Lily." I turn around and he is still sitting there, looking at me.
As I watch, he rises and, in one fluid motion, crosses the common room to my side. I have to look up to see into his eyes, he stands that close. He takes a lock of my bright red hair between two of his fingers and looks at it intently. Then, he, very carefully, as if it could break, places it back. He puts his fingers under my chin and lifts my mouth to his. The kiss is brief and soft. I feel his lips leave mine and, by the time I open my eyes, he has already disappeared up the stairs to the boys' dorm.
I walk slowly up to my dorm and change into my pajamas. I pull back the hangings to get into bed. Lying there, on my pillow, is a pink lily. Attached is a note. I read it and a grin spreads, unbidden, across my face. I carefully set the lily on my bedside table and crawl into bed.
---
I enter the great hall the next morning and search for him with my eyes. His are already on me, a question within them. I nod slightly and a smile spreads across his face.
A/N: I hope you guys like it. I know that it is short. Sorry.
